Skiing or snowshoeing in the dark wilderness is an unforgettable experience and with the right conditions you might see the Northern Lights in the night sky.

A unique private Northern Lights experience in the wilderness. You can choose if you want to use skis or snowshoes during the tour. Entering the wilderness after dark is an unforgettable experience as we move with headlamps in the snowy backcountry. On a clear night we will see the stars and moon guiding our way. With the right conditions we will have a chance to see the beautiful Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) roaming against the dark sky. During the tour we will visit a traditional campsite and you will get to enjoy complimentary hot beverages and light meal/snacks made from local ingredients by cozy campfire. On this tour we will be skiing/snowshoeing in a relatively easy wilderness terrain in the Pyhätunturi Area. You can choose between Snowshoes or OAC skin based skis which are designed for wilderness skiing. The adjustable bindings in snowshoes or skis fit to most winter or hiking boots. Earlier experience of snowshoes or wilderness skiing is not needed as your guide will teach you the correct technique. Please keep in mind: since the Northern lights are a natural phenomenon seeing them or the vibrancy of them can’t be guaranteed during the tour.

Our guide Mikko was excellent friendly and knowledgeable. Our family of 4 never tried cross country skiing. Mikko clearly explained how to use the skis and even had kid size skis for our 8 year old. The whole family had a great time. Mikko guided us through a beautiful forest and explained a bit about the nature around us. We saw hints of northern lights with the camera…the auroras are hard to predict. We skied to a hut and enjoyed a nice fire, snack, and warm beverage. On our drive back to the hotel close to midnight we saw the most amazing northern lights. Would recommend this for the unique experience of xc skiing at night through a forest with a great guide!

Went out with Mikko really nice fella and guide! Unfortunately weather was against us for northern lights but had an enjoyable snow shoe through the forests and fells! Mikko tried to give me the best chance of seeing the lights he even changed nights to give the best chance. Amazing place and would have been stunning if the lights had shown.

We have been walking with snowshoes at -25°c, the environment was immaculate and totally wild, we climbed a hill and had a barbecue in a hut. We also spotted a beginning of northern light, the sky was very clear
