USS Alabama Memorial Park, Mobile
Your first stop is one of the Gulf Coast’s most impressive historic attractions, the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park. This remarkable waterfront museum is home to the legendary WWII battleship USS Alabama, one of the most decorated battleships of the war. Guests can step aboard this massive vessel and explore multiple decks, gun turrets, crew quarters, and command areas while learning what life was like for the sailors who served on her. The park also includes the historic submarine USS Drum, one of the oldest American submarines on public display, along with a collection of military aircraft, tanks, and other exhibits that bring America’s wartime history to life. With beautiful views of Mobile Bay and many photo opportunities, this stop offers a fascinating look into America’s military past before continuing into historic downtown Mobile.
Mobile Carnival Museum
Step into one of Mobile’s most colorful traditions at the Mobile Carnival Museum, where guests discover the fascinating story of America’s original Mardi Gras celebration, which began in Mobile more than a century before it became famous in New Orleans. Housed in a historic mansion in downtown Mobile, the museum showcases elaborate parade floats, dazzling royal robes, jeweled crowns, and ornate costumes worn by Mardi Gras kings and queens throughout the city’s long carnival history. Guests can explore several floors of exhibits that highlight the secret societies, traditions, and artistry that make Mobile’s Mardi Gras celebration unique. From towering float displays to beautifully detailed costumes and historic photographs, the museum offers a lively and unforgettable look at one of the South’s most beloved cultural traditions. We had a wonderful day. There was something for both myself and my husband that we each wanted to see. But we both agree that the best part of our tour was our tour guide AJ

Our visit to the Mobile area was really wonderful, mostly due to our tour guide, Dennis! He was not only friendly and courteous, but so knowledgeable about everywhere we went, or even drove by! We learned so much, and saw such wonderful things. The USS Alabama was inspirational: made me extra proud of our country..... The museum and Jefferson Davis home were not only interesting, but we found out so much information about the Civil War Era! (Also a lot about Katrina....) I think my favorite was Bellingrath Gardens and Home: beautiful, quiet, amazing gardens and the house....WOW! We went over to Fort Gaines, also, but just stayed in the car, because we are both in our 70's and basically wore out! Dennis was so accommodating and patient with us. I totally recommend this tour! (The only improvement I would suggest is to make a shorter tour for elderly folks like us..... :-) )
