This is a perfect experience for anyone looking to connect with local Puerto Rican culture over food. Your cooking class takes place in a local home kitchen where Yeira will teach you 4-5 traditional Puerto Rican dishes. After cooking, enjoy your meal together with this warm and friendly local, passionate about food and travel. Experience authentic Puerto Rican life and cuisine with your host Yeira as you cook together and dine on authentic family recipes you won't find in restaurants. Yeira is a fun local host with a doctorate in clinical psychology who believes that food and cooking promotes wellness in people! She is excited to share her authentic Puerto Rican cuisine and culture with those visiting her hometown of San Juan.

This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional Puerto Rican culture and cuisine. Yeira welcomes you into her home with a delicious tropical cocktail and then teaches you to cook 4-5 dishes. Your hands-on 2-hour cooking lesson includes cooking demonstrations. A few dishes you might learn to cook are a main such as pollo en salsa criolla (Caribbean style chicken stew) or churrasco (skirt steak) with chimichurri, two side dishes such as arroz con gandules (traditional rice in Puerto Rico with green pigeon peas) or Caribbean style rice and beans, mofongo or yuca al mojo with sofrito (Puerto Rican seasoning), and a dessert. Your meal is served with a fresh salad. The menu varies and is created based on the season, availability of ingredients, and guests' dietary restrictions. Your meal also includes an appetizer that your hosts may have prepared in advance. After cooking, enjoy the dishes you helped prepare on Yeira's beautiful outdoor terrace. At the end of this culinary experience, you will leave with a full stomach, an understanding of Puerto Rican cuisine and culture, two Puerto Rican eBooks to share with your loved ones, and memorable stories!

5.00Our experience with Viviana in San Juan was absolutely wonderful! She was incredibly warm, welcoming, and especially amazing with our 6-year-old and 4-year-old. Traveling with young kids can be unpredictable, but Viviana was so patient, flexible, and adaptable throughout the entire experience, which made everything feel relaxed and enjoyable. She created such a comfortable and engaging environment for our family, and our kids genuinely had a great time. It didn’t feel like a “tour” at all—it felt like being welcomed into someone’s home and culture in the best way possible. We are so grateful for the experience and would highly recommend Viviana to anyone traveling to San Juan, especially families with young children!

5.00What an amazing and delicious experience! Viviana is a lovely person who guided me and my daughter through an understanding of Puerto Rican food. We prepared a meal of pork chops, rice, mofongo and tostones. She gave us perspective on the history and cultural significance of the foods we were making and we sat down to enjoy the meal with her afterward. She offered us her homemade coquito and it was so delicious, I'm afraid we drank the entire bottle on her! Would definitely recommend this experience with Viviana! My daughter further commented that our meal with her was by far the best food we had on our trip!

5.00It was a wonderful experience with Viviana. Definitely would recommend this to anyone. What I always thought was Puerto Rico food was not as flavorful as her recipes. The way she wove the history and culture was again very interesting.

5.00Such an amazing cooking experience with Viviana! Highly recommend to anyone looking to try delicious Puerto Rican food and a fun way to spend a few hours. Viviana was a gracious host at her home and made my daughter and I feel very welcome. Her instructions were clear and the pace was perfect to be able to understand and still ask questions. We would definitely come back in the future and it’s a great value for the tasty lunch you get to have at the end!

5.00Viviana is wonderful. She was generous with her time, sweet with our 5 year-old and a great guide to Puerto Rican history and foodways. We left with meals for two days, recommendations for restaurants and spots to check out in Santurce and inspiration for cooking back home. Couldn't recommend her more highly!

5.00I cannot recommend this cooking class enough! Viviana is a wonderful host who welcomed us into her lovely, inviting home in Puerto Rico. The experience felt less like a formal class and more like cooking with a friend. My husband and I will be trying some things we learned when we get home. The food was absolutely great, but what made the experience truly special was the conversation. Viviana didn't just teach us recipes; she wove in the history of the island and the ingredients, giving us a deeper appreciation for the culture. If you are looking for delicious food and a genuine connection, book this class!

5.00This was the best thing I've done on a vacation in a long time. Vivianna taught us so much about Puerto Rico and its food. We got to really experience the food by cooking it and then having a wonderful meal with her.
Amazing Cooking class with Viviana

5.00This was hands down our favorite activity in Puerto Rico. We were interested in a hands on cooking class and Viviana delivered that and so much more. We learned the history and importance of many PR ingredients while prepping and cooking our lunch along side our host. We prepared a delicious mufungo (had this earlier in the week on a food tour and THIS was not THAT), beef picadillo, rice, and an amazing stewed beans with pumpkin. Everyone thinks they make the best beans, but Viviana actually does. After completing our meal prep in the separate commercial kitchen we sat down in her beautiful house and enjoyed our lunch together along with dessert, coffee and a few toasts including her homemade coquito. We cannot recommend this activity enough. Try to book at the beginning of your stay as it will greatly inform the rest of your culinary adventure in Puerto Rico.

5.00We learned so much about PRican culture by just learning to cook PRican food! This event was worth every penny through Traveling Spoon. And of course, the wonderful memories we created together that involved all the senses- smells, tastes, the clinking of glasses, and the shared laughter was such a delight! Our Chef Viviana Acosta Padial shared that, "food is the great equalizer"! And she is so right! We didn't walk into an intimidating professional kitchen- we stepped into her beautiful historic Spanish bungalow and we instantly felt like we were part of her inner circle. Dining at various PRican restaurants around the island is one thing, but cooking together in a professional chef's home takes it to a whole new level! Chef Viviana transformed those everyday cooking tasks into a shared, mindful experience that told the PRican story- her story- giving us a better sense of understanding and acceptance and inspiration for this culture. Chef Viviana was trained in New York and worked all over the world to fine tune her craft as a chef. She can also be hired for catering or as a personal chef- or simply attend one of her classes in her home. We highly recommend!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ¡Buen provecho!
