The Bucharest of Contrasts Tour cross the entire city to uncover Europe’s most contrasting capital—a mix of 19th-century Belle Époque charm, stark Soviet ideology, massive Socialist urban planning, and raw post-Socialist realities. A fully restored vintage Dacia from the ’70s–’80s becomes your time-travel vehicle through Bucharest’s diverse worlds.

All the cars provided by Red Patrol are fully restored classics that meet fully the safety traffic regulations.
The Red Patrol provides quality and safe conditions tours with fully restored vehicles and we do not allow the participation with pets or children under 10 years old.

5.00This is a unique way to experience Bucharest that you won't forget. I booked a tour focused on the contrasts of the city - the layers of history represented through a hodgepodge of architecture from art noveau to communist apartment blocs and government buildings. The guide tailored the tour based on my interests and was extremely knowledgeable. It was a good way to take a tour without feeling too much like a tourist.

5.00Our journey through Bucharest’s history began with a charming pickup at the hotel in a beautifully restored Dacia. Our first stop was an abandoned building that was once intended to be the Museum of the Communist Party, offering a poignant glimpse into the past. We then ventured through the villa quarter near the Presidential Palace, where the 1960s neighbourhood of Drumul Taberei unfolded before us. This area, predominantly home to the working class, is characterised by its massive communist apartment blocks. Visitors can immerse themselves in the local culture by exploring the traditional peasant market, admiring the Orthodox churches that reflect the spiritual life of Romanians, or visiting former factories now transformed into modern shopping malls. Our tour continued to Ferentari, the most contrasting and photogenic district of Bucharest, often called the “City Machala.” Known for its notorious reputation, high poverty levels, and ghetto-style buildings, Ferentari presents a fascinating glimpse into the urban life and cultural diversity of the city, despite its challenges. Overall, if you want to understand Bucharest and Romania’s history more, this tour is highly recommended!

5.00This was our first activity in Bucharest and it was a fantastic experience. We learnt so much about the lifestyle and history of the city and absolutely loved the chance to ride around in the Dacia. We highly recommend this activity. Our driver, Mihai, was professional, knowledgeable and friendly. This experience was definitely one of the highlights of our holiday!

5.00In the "Bucharest of Contrasts Tour", Ivan Crinu provided me with a glimpse into Bucharest's stratified socioeconomic landscape. We drove through Cotroceni, with its villas and historic atmosphere, Drumul Taberei, with its middle-class charm and practicality, and Ferentari, which had visible economic struggles. I'm grateful to have had a tour with Ivan, who's deep knowledge imparted me with a historical scaffolad to understand the stark contrasts between affluent, middle-class, and underprivileged areas in Romania's capital. My favorite highlight was juxtaposition of the Academia Română building in Uranus, built during the communist era for one (Elena Ceaușescu), and the adjacent Bragadiru Palace, constructed by the capitalist Dumitru Bragadiru, but serving as a cultural institution for the masses. It showed me that, even after 30 years of democracy, and after Romania's extraordinary economic growth in recent years, the politcal upheaval of the 20th century remains cast in concrete -- still influencing the social problems of today.

5.00A complex tour that managed to bring the atmosphere of communism back to the present in a very funny and authentic way. If you want to feel yourself in the "golden era" of the communist years, don't hesitate to book a trip back in time. You won t regret!

5.00If you are looking for something different to do in Bucharest, you will love this tour! It shows you non-touristy places of the Romanian capital. We enjoyed it a lot. It was very interesting and full of history. Also, driving around the city with an old Dacia was and adventure.

5.00We loved the Red Patrol tour. I love old cars, so riding around in the Dascia was a special treat. Our guide was knowledgeable, funny, and an all-around nice guy. One of the highlights from our visit to Bucharest.

5.00I was in Bucharest working, and was able to take one of the tours with Dacia on a weekend. We toured a few flea markets and drove around to various points of interest in the city. I had such a personal experience that I could not have had any other way. Loved the tour guide, loved the Dacia. I would highly recommend!
