Starting from Nagano City or any of the Nagano's 5 main ski resorts
(Hakuba, Shiga Kogen, Nozawa Onsen, Myoko Kogen, Madarao Kogen) , we will pick your party up in our private vehicle to take you on your private tour and drop you off back at the pick up location or in Nagano City.
On this tour, you will visit the famous Jigokudani Monkey Park and learn all about what makes the resident monkeys so unique, and enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant and experience Nagano’s renowned food culture.
Guests will also have a chance to stroll the charming streets of the historic town of Obuse, and enjoy viewing its remaining Edo period buildings, as well as explore Zenko-ji, one of Japan’s oldest and most important Buddhist temples, and home to the first known Buddhist statue to be brought to Japan.
A Sake tasting experience with detailed explanations from your guide is also included(non-alcoholic options available).

Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park
Once your tour begins, you will board our private tour vehicle and leave the city behind as you are transported to the Snow Monkey Park, located in the onsen town Yudanaka at the foot of the mountains. Your guide will take you along the forest trail which leads to the park and into Jigokudani - rather dramatically translating to 'Hell's Valley'. Home to the only troop of monkeys in the entire world known to bathe in hot springs, there are no barriers separating you from the wild monkeys, making this a unique and memorable experience. Your guide will introduce these truly curious creatures and provide you time to enjoy the unique experience of observing them in close proximity. Make sure to bring your camera as you`re going to need it!
Your guide will then accompany you back along the trail to nearby Hotarutei for a well-deserved lunch and you will enjoy "nabe," meaning "hot pot" in Japanese. Nabe is a classic winter food in Japan and a perfect way to warm up on a cold winter day. To suit individual preferences, you may choose between beef, seafood, or vegetarian nabe. In addition, your meal will include assorted tempura, miso soup, sushi, and tea/coffee. This beautifully prepared, filling lunch is designed to match the season and highlight the best of Nagano's renowned food culture.

5.00Fabulous tour today. Our guide, Endo, met us promptly the train station. He took us to a famous temple in Nagano. And was very interesting and well spoken about what we were seeing. He recommended we go in the underground tunnel, which was fabulous. After we had a superb meal. Our best while in Japan. He explained what we’re eating as he joined us. Then off to the monkey park. We were fortunate to see the whole troop of monkeys playing, swimming and having a great time in the outdoors. I took so many pictures. The company we used was fantastic. Highly recommended. Catered to our needs. When he left us, he gave us lots of information for tomorrow so we could enjoy the area. Superb.

5.00We actually went February 2024 and I'm positive I left a review, but I stumbled upon an old email and checked just no - no review! Better late than never, right? Our tour guide was Joyce and she was fantastic! Even prior to the tour, Joyce and the others in the booking team were great to deal with, helping us create a fully customised daytrip (combining bits and pieces of the pre-designed tours): Hotel pickup, visit snow monkeys, fancy multi-layer bento lunch, visit Obuse with sake tasting, dinner in Nagano, visit Zenko-ji Temple (conveniently during lantern festival), drop-off back to accommodation. Joyce was very friendly and informative, and chatted with us like she was part of the group. She offered really insightful tips at each stop, including personal recommendations (such as a bonus sake shop in addition to the planned tasting, local ice cream shop with unique regional flavours and gave us a personal origami lesson during lunch). We crammed a lot in and Joyce was the best tour guide to take us through it all. Everyone had an exhausting but amazing time.

5.00I can never be any happier with this tour. Though I’m not the type would want to track but manage to track the way up to the park to see the snow monkey under the encouragement of Jens, tour of the day. Jens was extremely helpful and considerate and to care of us very well. He has enormous knowledge about the history, the tradition of the places we visit. I would anytime recommend him to be our next tour guide.
Cultural/cuteness/and good food, well worth it.

5.00Our guide Kieron was knowledgeable, easygoing, and very helpful. The monkeys are cute and entertaining, the lunch was delicious and it was great to see the historical town, we even snuck in a museum visit. It made returning from the ski resort easy as we were picked up from our accommodation and dropped off at the bullet train station in Nagano.

5.00We recently enjoyed a private tour of the Jigokudani Snow Monkeys, Zenkoji Temple area, and sake tasting with Snow Monkeys Resort, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Booking and payment on the Snow Monkeys Resort website was incredibly simple and straightforward. I booked just a day or two in advance, and I requested a little birthday cake at the restaurant to celebrate my wife's birthday. The team’s communication via email was prompt and excellent, making the process a breeze. We were warmly greeted at our hotel reception by our wonderful guide, Joyce, and our lovely driver, Nishi. The van provided was clean and spacious, making for a comfortable journey. Our group consisted of myself, my wife, and our 3-year-old toddler, and both Joyce and Nishi were extremely accommodating of our needs throughout the day. Their flexibility with the schedule was a huge help, and we never felt rushed. Instead, we felt well taken care of. For anyone looking for a more bespoke and personalized experience, I would definitely recommend booking this Private Snow Monkey tour with Snow Monkeys Resort. It's a fantastic way to see the sights and make lasting memories!

5.00WOW!! This was a highlight of our whole Japan trip - our tour guide Jens was incredible, friendly and hospitable right from the start. The temple visit was more impactful because of Jens’s knowledge and guidance - having him lead us through the space was so helpful to better understand what we were seeing. Sake tasting (lots of sake!) and a tasty traditional lunch were a treat before visiting the monkey park, where the monkeys run amok among visitors - so beautiful to see them keeping warm in the hot springs…NatGeo-level pics!! After a quick stop in a small town to enjoy local chestnut ice cream, an easy bus ride back to Hakuba. Huge thank you to Jens and Snow Monkey Resorts for an experience we will remember forever - 10/10 would recommend!!
