National Museum of History
The tour starts at 9am when you will be picked up by a private guide from your staying in Sofia. By car you will head to the outskirts of Sofia and Vitosha Mountain. The first stop will be the National History Museum-the biggest museum in Bulgaria and one of the biggest on the Balkans. It has rich collections from antiquity to nowadays.
Boyana Church
The next stop will be the remarkable Boyana Church, recognized by UNESCO because of its amazingly well preserved frescoes from the 13th century. You will have the chance to explore the church and learn its history from your guide.

5.00It was a good tour and the museum had its information in English which always helps. The guide and the driver were most courteous and informative. The church is small and only so many people can fit it at the one time. I mean less than twenty! But the art work dates to the 12th century and is in beautiful condition considering it is around 1,000 years old. No photography allowed. That should be fine for everyone. It was a perfect tour for us. Diana, our guide, and Simeon, our driver, were fantastic. Just us two and these two people. Very flexible and worth the money.

5.00Excellent guide, showed us parts of Sofia we would have missed. He was very knowledgeable about Sofia and Bulgaria history, and very educated in his explanations. Boyana and the National History Museum were impressive and worthwhile Only negative was the small, uncomfortable car.

5.00There were so memorable parts of this tour that I have a hard time beginning. First of all the National History Museum was exceptional especially with such a knowledgeable guide like Dimitri who explained in details the over 5,000 years of history that Bulgaria has. Then, the importance of Bayona Church, followed by a visit to the largest synagogue in Bulgaria and its history of protecting Jews was very meaningful to us as Jews; followed by the Roman ruins, the visit to the park and sitting there while Dimitri explained the two 20th century Balkan Wars… followed by so much. Our guide Dimitri was amazing; you should give him more tours and pay him a lot because he’s delightful to listen to for historical narratives!

5.00I was met at hotel by my guide Maria who was very welcoming. Maria explained about the day & best place to buy souvenirs. The Natural History Museum was an excellent visit to understand the history. Maria was vert knowledgeable & I was impressed with her knowledge. The museum had many interesting pieces of history as treasures discovered to traditional clothing. I learnt a lot about Bulgarian history thanks to Maria. I then visited Boyana Church which was beautifully built. The church has beautiful garden around it. I entered the church & was amazed with with art work on wall. I then visited many key sites in Sofia & Maria explained to me about each building. The cathedral was a beautiful site to see. Maria was very professional & thanks to her my tour was excellent. The best half day tour in Sofia.
