Their sushi class was one of the best experiences I had in Japan! Both hosts were incredibly warm, welcoming, and easy to talk to and I truly enjoyed spending time with them. It was such a wonderful experience to speak with artists who genuinely understand and live Japanese culture. Not only did I learn about sushi, I also discovered new perspectives on many aspects of Japanese culture, especially cuisine culture. They were both such insightful and lovely people. The place where the class was held was also calm and beautiful, giving me a chance to experience an authentic Japanese living space. Even the tools and aprons were uniquely Japanese, adorable, and beautifully designed. At the beginning, I was served matcha and traditional Japanese sweet (Nerikiri). I was captivated by the stunning beauty of the sweet, and I was also impressed by their flavor and the incredible craftsmanship behind them. Before the hands-on session, I learned about the sushi, including its history. It was the clearest and most interesting explanation I’ve ever heard, and their perspective was fresh and unique. I then had the opportunity to make four different types of sushi myself with the host. Through the different techniques, I also learned about the occasions and lifestyles connected to each style of sushi in Japan. I had no idea there were so many varieties and differences in sushi! Cutting the fish and shaping the sushi by hand was both fun and challenging. The skill of professional sushi chefs is truly amazing They taught us very carefully and patiently, step by step, so even beginners like me were able to make sushi successfully. Eating the sushi I made myself for the first time was such an emotional and delicious experience!! At the end, they even gave me a lovely gift. It was beautiful, and I can’t wait to use it. I already knew a little about Japanese culture, this class is special as opportunities to experience it directly with Japanese artists are rare. I’m extremely satisfied and would highly recommend this experience!

I learned how to make many different styles of sushi and enjoyed eating what I made was truly special. This class goes far beyond cooking, exploring sushi diversity and how food connects to Japanese history, climate, and daily life. The surprise handmade wagashi and matcha were delicious, and the thoughtful gifts were the perfect finishing touch. The host couple were artistic, warm, and inspiring. Highly recommended for anyone interested in Japanese culture.

I'm not really interested in sushi or Japanese culture by nature. "I've also felt a bit distanced from the type of experience that emphasizes ""Japan is amazing.""" I was invited to this class by a friend, but I was relieved that there was no atmosphere. The history of sushi and fishing was introduced not to praise Japan but to explain how people have adapted to changing times and environments. He mentioned labor and environmental issues, but he was calm and not imposing. I don't usually eat much sushi, but this class helped me understand why sushi feels really good.

I joined this class with my family, and it turned into a really special time for us. Even when we didn’t understand something, Rei and Chie patiently explained it again and again without ever making us feel rushed or uncomfortable. The class is small, and they carefully watch each person’s hand movements, which made it very reassuring for beginners. We also learned a lot about how sushi has changed over time, and how it differs by region. Hearing these stories made the world of sushi feel much bigger and more interesting. Both Rei and Chie are incredibly kind and easy to understand. Rei’s English communication was smooth and clear, which made the experience comfortable for everyone. The dessert Chie prepared after the lesson was amazing — honestly like the final course of a restaurant meal. The space was clean and beautifully decorated with kimono textiles. From start to finish, it was a very comfortable and thoughtful experience.

I knew almost nothing about sushi, but with their careful guidance I was able to make it well. The explanations about fish handling and hygiene were clear and practical. Making sushi was much more fun than I expected. The renovated traditional house was beautiful and made the experience feel special.
