Taroko National Park
One of Taiwan’s most famous destinations, Taroko National Park is known for its marble canyons, lush forests, and towering peaks. The Liwu River has carved the stunning 18 km Taroko Gorge, where sheer marble cliffs rise above turquoise waters. Our visit includes highlights such as the Taroko Gorge Entrance Arch, Visitor Center, and scenic viewpoints along the gorge. Although some trails remain closed due to the April 2024 earthquake, your experienced guide will take you to the best open spots with breathtaking views and hidden photo opportunities. We dedicate a significant part of the day to exploring Taroko, with short walks, plenty of photo stops, and a relaxed pace. Sightseeing duration may vary with traffic, weather, or park rules, but your guide will adjust the itinerary to ensure the best experience. This full-day tour usually lasts around 8 hours, so starting before 8:30 AM is recommended.

We had an amazing day exploring Taroko Gorge and Hualien with Sam as our private guide. Even though we had visited the park before (in 2019), this experience felt completely new thanks to Sam’s knowledge and thoughtful planning. Due to the 2024 earthquake, many of the main hiking trails were still closed. However, Sam went above and beyond to make sure we still got the most out of our visit. He took us to several scenic viewpoints in Taroko National Park that we hadn’t seen before, and each stop was absolutely stunning. We also visited Qixingtan Beach and hiked the Sakul Trail, which ended up being a highlight of the day—gorgeous waterfall views and plenty of monkeys along the way! Sam adapted seamlessly and made sure we still had an active and memorable experience. What really made the tour stand out was Sam’s storytelling. He shared fascinating historical context along with fun details (like the meaning behind the marble balls in the dog-mouth carvings on Loving Mother Bridge), which added so much depth to the visit. He even took us to a fantastic new hot pot restaurant right near where we had stayed during a previous trip—it was a perfect lunch spot. We wrapped up the day at General’s Mansion, another place we hadn’t seen before and a great addition to the itinerary. Sam is an excellent guide—knowledgeable, flexible, and personable. If you’re visiting Taroko Gorge, especially with ongoing trail closures, having a guide like Sam makes all the difference. Highly recommend!

We had a fantastic private tour of Taroko National Park and Hualien with Sam and couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Sam was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about the area, which made the entire day both enjoyable and memorable. We visited Qixingtan Beach and several stops throughout Taroko National Park. Many of the official hiking trails were still closed following the 2024 earthquake, but Sam did an excellent job adapting the itinerary. He took us to beautiful vantage points we hadn’t seen during our previous visit in 2019, giving us a completely fresh experience. What really stood out was the depth of insight Sam shared—from the park’s history to fun details like the meaning behind the marble “balls” inside the dog-mouth carvings on the Loving Mother Bridge. Those little touches made the tour feel special and personal. Sam also took us to a great hot pot restaurant in Taroko, conveniently located near where we had stayed on our last trip—such a thoughtful and spot-on suggestion. Since many trails were closed, he brought us to hike the Sakul Trail instead, which turned out to be a highlight—beautiful waterfall views and plenty of monkeys along the way! Our final stop at General’s Mansion was another place we hadn’t visited before and a great way to round out the day. Highly recommend Sam if you’re looking for a flexible, informative, and genuinely enjoyable private tour experience in Hualien!

Excellent day trip to Taroko Gorge from Hualien. Our guide, Jimmy, was very knowledgeable and professional! He was on time picking us up, and extremely caring, making sure we were comfortable throughout the trip. Gave us suggestions for lunch, helped us take really good photos, brought us to interesting places in the gorge, pointed out different plants, etc. This day tour is highly recommended!

Our family went on the Taroko Gorge/Hualien highlights tour. They were so helpful beforehand as we made arrangements to accommodate our large group of ten adults. They answered all of my questions and booked our tour via email. We wanted to visit Taroko Gorge but weren’t sure what would be open and how to navigate the entry and exit times easily in a foreign language on our own. We took two cars to tour. Both of our guides spoke English and were knowledgeable about Taiwan and the area and its culture. We felt like we had the best experience in the gorge! Our guides were aware of the time constraints of the gorge and kept us on schedule so we didn’t have to wait. They knew where to stop to give us the most beautiful views of the gorge and gave us plenty of time to see the open areas. They showed us a nice spot for a delicious lunch, and we even got ice cream afterwards. The Hualien stops were also beautiful. Including some places we never would have known about on our own. A very cool rock art beach. A hike to a 40 foot waterfall, an old church, and of course Qingshui Cliffs. The tour was eight hours, with a lot of driving. Our guides were Alex and Lion, they were lots of fun with lots of personality which made the day very fun! Thanks for a fun day showing us your country!!

Great tour and it's a highlight of our trip. The Taroko Gorge is a must see and it was fascinating to hear about the history and how natural events have impacted the ability to see it. So beautiful. Pictures don't do it justice. Sam took us to a variety of other places that balanced out the day. Each was unique and worth the time. Overall a great day that I encourage others to experience.

The private tour to Taroko Gorge with Alex was absolutely a wonderful experience. Alex was professional, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and very comical. We learned about the history of Hualien and Taroko, the formation of marble over time shaped by typhoons and wind, and last but not least, Alex’s personal experiences growing up in Hualien. To me, hearing how someone is deeply connected to a place through time and family stories is truly inspiring. There was also a lot of hiking between sightseeing stops, so make sure to wear proper shoes.
