  Carlos was VERY knowledgeable about the birds, their songs and their habits. He also speaks fluent bird! It would have been nice to see some wetland areas.

  Carlos is so experienced and knowledgeable, he made the adventure so much fun for experienced and new birders alike. he knows how to bring all the birds to the yard. we saw so much more than i ever dreamed of. 43 and most were lifers for me! we’d do this again.

• Birding in the Yucatan

  This was an amazing two day tour with Carlos and Lugo. We were able to locate ALL the endemic Yucatan bird species including Mexican Sheartail, Gray-throated Chat, Orange Oriole, Yucatan Poorwill, Yucatan Nightjar Yucatan Wren, Yucatan Gnatcatcher, Yucatan Vireo and Yellow-lored (Yucatan) Parrot We alao so American Flamingo, American Pygmy Kingfisher, Lesser Roadrunner, several Ferruginous Pygmy-Owls and many more bird species. In addition we saw Gray Fox and Constrictor species. Both guides were incredibly knowledgeable and a delight to be with. I highly recommend them to any birder visiting the Yucatan.

• I would go birding with Carlos again anytime!

  Carlos was amazing! His enthusiasm in finding unusual birds and in showing us even common birds rivaled our own, which was such an additive to the experience. He brought us coffee and breakfast snacks, as well as lunch, but we were so captivated by the birds that we could hardly eat in our excitement of all of the life-listers we were seeing. He took us to places we never would have found and in a morning, we had an impressive list of more than 50 lifers! He shared photos with us after the tour and helped make sure our lists remembered everything we'd seen for eBird. A fantastic outing! (And, since it was COVID time, we were fully masked and it felt very safe.)

  Great half-day excursion. Hernan (birding guide) and Angel (driver) met us this morning at 5:50 a.m. at our hotel lobby. Drove (about one hour) from Riviera Maya to Muyil. Identified 41 birds (including 15 lifers, and a few endémica) within 4 hours at two adjacent locations. Included a walk through the Muyil archeological ruins. Included water and snack (a tasty pumpkin-based salsa, at a local community cafe adjacent to the cooperative). Angel was a great driver, professional, and kept an eye on our belongings while we birded). Hernan was a great guide. Knowledgeable about birds (including endemics) and, by coincidence, archeology, with certifications in both apparently. Helped target specific birds on a wish list. Very friendly. Bilingual (Spanish, English). Highly recommend this excursion for birders of all levels.

  My sister wanted to go bird watching while we were staying in Cancun. We were told the only place we could go was the Xcaret park. Fortunately she found Contoy Excursions instead. We were given a very reasonable price for a private tour. They picked us up at our hotel in Cancun and, thankfully, brought us coffee since it was before sunrise. We were driven to a Mayan village south of Tulum and were taken around by a very experienced and knowledgeable guide. We were able to see a flock of toucans and many other birds (I think my sisters list topped out at 60+ types, 42 of which were new to her). The guides were very enthusiastic and helpful and made the experience really wonderful. After the tour, we were given a breakfast of fresh fruits, freshly squeezed juice and cake and driven back to the hotel. I highly recommend Contoy Excursions and will definitely be using them again in the future as they offer many different experiences. I can't wait!
