Discover the history and secrets of Montserrat Benedictine Monastery with a specialized local guide on a Private Tour from Barcelona with hotel pick up.

Ride Sant Joan Funicular up the mountain to enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views over the multi-peaked rocky range and the monastery. Then ride the Funicular back down or hike down following a beautiful path around the needle rock formations of the mountain which pass by many natural viewpoints that offer amazing views over the monastery and the mountain.

While back at the monastery enjoy some free time and wander around the farmers market. You can also listen to the famous Escolania de Montserrat choir sing on weekdays, except for public holidays (subject to the basilica's capacity).

Start your day by visiting the Benedictine Monastery and discover its amazing history. Montserrat literally means “sawed mountain” in Catalan, and it is called this due to its multi-peaked rocky range. This is the holly mountain of the Catalans and home of the "Black Madonna" a XIV century romanesque sculpture of the Virgin Mary, patron saintness of the Catalans.

We had a fabulous day out exploring the Montserrat monastery and hiking trails. Ramon, our guide, was amazing. Very knowledgeable and did a great job of showing us all the areas we were interested in. I would HIGHLY recommend Catalan Trails if you are looking for experienced and professional guides & adventures.

Fantastic hike and visit to the Monastery! Ramon was an excellent trip leader and a highly knowledgeable guide who shared fantastic information about the Geology, vegetation, history, and culture Monserrat. He even provided local snacks that were delicious. I highly recommend that you do this trip with Ramon.

It was a very well planned trip. The views were spectacular. We went early to avoid crowds. Our guide was very knowledgeable about history and culture. Would definitely recommend this tour.

Complete walking and guided tours, very Recommendation self-help Traveler to participate, absolutely worth it! This mountain is very special, it is not high altitude, the autumn winter is more comfortable, there are some buildings at the foot of the mountain, some of the history of Napoleon, and some of the history of the revolt at the time.

Such a fabulous day spent with Ramon exploring Monserrat and waking down the hillside. Ramon is engaging and able to personalize the experience to guests interests and abilities. His knowledge surrounding the monastery and the mountain surroundings was palpable and made for a delightful cruise port experience that went beyond the average tourist activity. Great communication after the booking and leading up to date of tour, where to meet, wear. If you want to experience the beauty beyond Barcelona highly recommend.

The monastery is lovely, but my favorite part was hiking the trails and exploring the viewpoints. Geologically interesting, as well as historically influential. A rewarding day trip in every way.

Ramon did an amazing job! He was punctual, pleasant, and extremely knowledgeable of both the monastery and the surrounding area. He tailored the tour and the hike to my preferences. Overall a superior experience and a great value.
