Operated by Senor Travel Bug, the itinerary of this tour is a classic of the Cancun and Riviera Maya region, but with two principal differences. You will ride in a Classic VW Beetle painted as a racing car (although you can choose a more 'standard' car if you prefer), and your guide, a former professional photographer, will take photos and video throughout the day, all of which will be shared with you for free by the following day. You should not leave this region of Mexico without visiting Chichen Itza, the only Modern Wonder of the World in North America. After a guided tour of the ruins, a refreshing dip in a cenote always proves very welcome and something you can only experience in this region. The final stop is in Valladolid where you stroll the streets and the main square, perhaps refreshing with a cool drink beside the cathedral to end the tour ahead of the return to Cancun. Chichen Itza Yucatan
The first place visited is Chichen Itza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since the 1980s and voted a modern Wonder of the World in 2007. It is considered the most important of the Mayan sites primarily because it has buildings from the two Mayan eras and therefore differing styles of architecture reflecting the changing politics, beliefs and culture from 435AD to the Spanish Conquest in the 16th century, but also for its religious importance to the Maya as a place of pilgrimage. Unlike most guided tours, Señor Travel Bug will take you to the older and newer parts of Chichen Itza and explain their relevance. We drive for approximately 2h45 to arrive at Chichen Itza, depending on pick-up location.
Hacienda Oxman Cenote
Our second stop will typically be to either one or two cenotes, and will be chosen after discussing with the visitor their preferences eg. cliff-jumping, merely floating, seeing cave structures etc and could be before or after lunch depending on hunger and how much time was spent in Chichen Itza (a benefit of a private tour). Visitors can then swim, jump or merely relax in the cool waters of the cenotes that are somewhat unique to this region of the world. We drive for 30-45 minutes after Chichen Itza to arrive this location (depending on the cenote selected reflecting each individual's or group's style (i.e. calm or adventurous style cenote)

5.00What a fantastic tour from start to finish great fun! Paul was just superb from local area knowledge, to information around the ruins, He designed the tour to suit our needs and desires, kept the kids interested and included in all with interactive experiences along the way. Plus also a professional photographer so win win. The Absolute highlight of our holiday and strongly recommend to all. We Will be sure to contact Paul next time we visit Mexico again.

5.00We had a wonderful time with Paul. We had a group of 4, and were skeptical about travelling the distance in the VW Bug, so Paul made arrangements to drive us to Chichén Itzá in a quite comfortable Audi Q5. He arrived promptly at 6:30 am, was patient with hotel security and got us on the road promptly. We made it to Chichén Itzá shortly after opening, before the vast majority of the crowds formed. He was a great guide, answered any questions we had and was very interactive. We felt very comfortable with Paul. We opted to skip the cenote experience (as we have already done similar experiences). It was great to have that flexibility. On the way to Valladolid, we stopped by a great authentic restaurant in Kaua. He showed us our lunch being prepared-handmade tortillas and pork. It was delicious. We shopped at Valladolid, ate too much, talked about our experiences and travels - and headed back. At the end of our journey, Paul sent us all the photos that he had been taking throughout the day - which was very much appreciated. I would definitely recommend Paul to my friends and family if they ever visited the area. Thanks, Paul!

5.00If you’re considering booking with Paul absolutely do it! We are fussy travellers and Paul hit every point and more! The tour itself and the knowledge is absolutely fantastic we learnt so much, but Paul really tailored this experience for us and he is great company it felt like a tour with a friend not a guide! The extra advice and food stops were very welcome and even our teenager loved the day! If we ever come back Paul will be the first person we reach out to for tours

5.00If you are looking for a private tour with a thoroughly educated, experienced and fun guide…..Paul is you man! We had an absolutely unforgettable experience with Paul. He made sure we were well prepared in advance for our day, thoughtfully planning all aspects of the day from start to finish and catered to our wishes so that the day spent with him would be perfect. On top of his incredible knowledge of the history of the area his personality and genuine care and concern is unmatched. We had the absolute pleasure of spending the day with him and we would 100% recommendation using him without hesitation.

5.00We took this tour on the first day of 2026. It was perfect from start to finish. We're not native English speakers, but Paul explained everything in a way that was easy for our children to understand. Because it was a completely private tour, the timetable was very flexible and tailored to our needs, so we didn't feel rushed and felt very relaxed. We had wanted to try the cool Volkswagen for transportation, but this time we were tired from arriving in Cancun the day before, so we went with his Audi Q5. It was so comfortable that the whole family slept well in the car on the way back. Paul also took some amazing photos and videos during the tour for us. We're grateful for this wonderful experience at the start of the year. If you're looking for a great day in Cancun, this tour is definitely the right choice.

5.00We booked our day tour with Paul after reading his reviews and he did not disappoint. The drive from our hotel to Chichen Itza was approx 2 hours, we had many questions which Paul answered, he is very knowledgable on Mexican culture and history, but the fact that Paul is such a personable guy made for easy conversation and the drive flew by. At Chichen Itza, Paul’s passion for history brought the Mayan culture to life, he is very knowledgable but did not just deliver ‘text book’ facts, and was keen to discuss different theories and opinions. He was happy to spend as much time as we wanted here and we appreciated the fact that we didn’t have to stick to an ‘itinerary’ and had time to explore the whole site. After our morning at Chichen Itza, we were ready to eat and from the options presented we ate at a local place that we would never have found without Paul, the food was traditional and soo tasty - we even had homemade juices, delicious and refreshing. Next onto the Cenote, what a beautiful place - it’s easy to understand why these were considered sacred places. We jumped, then used the rope swing and swam in the crystal clear waters. Again, at our own pace. We arrived at the town of Valladolid by late afternoon, Paul guided us to a fab ice cream parlour and as we strolled around the town with our refreshing ices, the locals were starting to gather in the town square, many accompanied with music and instruments. Once again, Paul guided us and commented on historical buildings and local traditions with enthusiasm. Throughout the day Paul took many photo’s, he has a great ‘eye’ and took fun ‘posed’ photos along with more casual reportage style photos which he shared with us at the end of the day - once back at out hotel for the evening we were surprised when he sent us a very professional reel of our day!! We had an unforgettable tour with Paul, the day really exceeded our expectations and we would not hesitate in recommending booking with Paul. A few practicalities worth noting: Paul organised all entry tickets so we didn’t have to queue, allowing for more time at the sites. Pauls fluency in Spanish (along with other languages).

Paul was a knowledgeable and engaging guide and displayed genuine enthusiasm in immersing us in the history and local community. He's also a wonderful photographer and we've received a diverse collection of photographs from the duration of our trip. 5.00We had a great experience with Paul as our tour guide. He led us through Chichen Itza and a local cenote, and was very helpful with food options and explaining the history along the way. Paul was knowledgeable and easygoing, never overbearing, and did a great job tailoring the day to what we wanted to do. He answered our questions patiently and shared insights about local life that really added to the experience. I traveled with my family, and we all felt comfortable and well taken care of. Overall, it was a very enjoyable and memorable day, and we’d definitely recommend Paul!

5.00We had a great time with Paul, who expertly walked us through the ruins at Chichen Itzá, patiently answering our questions and taking some wonderful photos throughout the day. Additionally, as vegetarians, we were delighted by his efforts ensuring we had a variety of food options throughout the day.
