I have been on Bio Bay tours several times before through other friendly, professional companies. First and foremost, the first priority on any tour should be safety! NOT for Mareaito, their priority was not to scratch the boat so they had us removed our shoes before heading down the dock 1. It was after 9 PM and I asked if they would provide my 65-year-old sister who was celebrating a birthday a lifejacket because she doesn’t swim and they said NO they only hand out lifejackets if you’re jumping in the water. A male friend who was with us and was going to jump in the ocean with his 13-year-old daughter asked for life jackets simply because it would make him feel more comfortable and they said NO instead, they threw a pool noodle in the water. 3. It was raining and Mareaito knew that when it rains it’s almost impossible to see the lights because “they get pushed down" according to the company, but still wouldn’t reschedule the tour. Other tours I’ve been On have company employees jump in the water to activate the lights to provide the highlight of the tour. Mareaito adamantly said "they don’t do that " the customers would have to jump in the ocean in the dark to activate the light themselves (absolutely ridiculous). The Mareaito company gave me the impression that they’re out to make a quick buck not show the bio luminescent Bay. Mareaito doesn’t care to provide safety or the paying customer the experience they not only paid for but were expecting, customer satisfaction is not high on their list.

We had a great time (after we finally found the meeting point). Do not follow the directions in your confirmation email; you will be 30+ minutes from where you actually need to be. Once we were in the boat, our tour was fantastic. Our guide and boat captain were wonderful. We swam in the mangroves with tarpon before going out to the Bay at dark. What an amazing experience! The only bioluminescent waters you can swim in. Definitely an "in the moment" experience that you must do to truly understand the wonders of the ocean!

Swimming with the bioluminescent dinoflaggelates is the best way to see them! Really neat experience and Ryan was a fabulous guide.

We enjoyed the sunset cruise and bio bay swim. The boat was well maintained and felt very safe on it. We did have trouble locating the meet up spot. The address listed did not take us there. So leave extra time to find it, which is near a shopping/restaurant area. It was fun to be in the water and experience the bioluminescence that way instead of on a boat or in a kayak.

We visited the biobay during spring break, so naturally there were quite a lot of tourists. That said, Mareaito Charters handled the crowd very well by organizing guests into smaller groups, which allowed everyone to enjoy the experience without feeling overwhelmed. We booked the 6 PM tour, and during spring break they also added 9 PM and 11 PM options. The 6 PM slot turned out to be a fantastic choice as it’s perfectly timed so that sunset occurs about 30 minutes into the trip. During this time, the boat stops in shallow water (around 4 feet deep), where you can choose to swim or simply stand and take in the sunset. It was a beautiful and relaxing way to start the evening. After sundown, the boat heads to the actual biobay. Here, the water gets much deeper (12+ feet), so flotation devices are provided. This is where the real magic begins. Our guide, Jesus, was excellent. With decades of boating experience, including sailing prior to retirement, he was both knowledgeable and personable. He clearly cares deeply about the environment, which really stood out. I especially appreciated how he slowed the boat when entering the bay to minimize disturbance to the plankton, and how he took the time to explain both the ecosystem and the importance of preserving it. We were also lucky that our visit coincided with a new moon, making the experience even more spectacular. With minimal light pollution in La Parguera, the stars were incredibly visible, adding another layer to an already unforgettable night. One tip to maximize your experience in the biobay: use the flotation device and don’t be afraid to “unlearn” smooth swimming. The bioluminescence is most vivid when the water is disturbed, so the more you move and splash, the brighter it glows. Ironically, the more graceful your swimming, the less you’ll see! Also, forget about taking pictures in the bio bay area unless you have a professional camera. You might as well focus on the experience than to attempt taking terrible pictures.

The tour and guides were amazing! The experience was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Warm water, shooting stars, and bio luminescent glows that looked like stars in the water. Note: Plan for 2.5 plus hours if you need to get dinner prior to your excursion. Reserva 304 is not the place to go unless you have 3 plus hours before your boat ride. The parking is a nightmare for dinner, use Calle to Avenue los Pescadores and park on the side streets. Even though the tour has parking… it is bumpy.

Our family of four enjoyed swimming in the bioluminescent bay and rated this the top experience from our week long vacation in PR.. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. We ran a little late due to traffic and they were accommodating. One thing that may have been helpful is to ask people to meet 15 minutes earlier as other tours do. We were not the only family running behind because of traffic or confusion from Google maps. Also may want to emphasize that people should bring a towel because the wind and temperature get cold after dark.
