  In my personal experience, the Altai region offers some of the most stunning landscapes on the planet, and the Mongols and Kazakhs who live there are among the kindest and most hospitable people. To make the most of your visit, I highly recommend traveling with a guided tour. It allows you to see more in the limited time available, supports the local economy, and makes communication easier through an English-speaking guide. A tour also lets you experience things you couldn’t easily arrange on your own. Like visiting nomadic families, hiking to breathtaking viewpoints, crossing vast landscapes in a cool Russian van, and making special experiences, such as horse riding with eagle hunters or attending the eagle hunter festival. For all these reasons, a tour is arguably the best option. Dauren from Discover Altai helped us arrange the perfect tour, tailoring the trip to our wishes and schedule. He was very kind, responsive, and reliable. I highly recommend booking a tour with him. He also assembled a wonderful crew: our guide Bik was fun, fluent in English, and full of interesting stories and facts to tell, Sebit was an expert and resourceful driver, and our cook Parisa spoiled us with her delicious cuisine. Once the "ice was broken", it felt less like a guided tour and more like a group of people traveling together. This was an amazing feeling.   Honestly it was amazing, our tour guide went above and beyond to all our requests whether it was stopping to shop or do another day of horseback riding. We had certain timelines for like moving place to place and the festival but other than that we were free to explore as we wished! Would absolutely go again. I recommend a day or two either before or after to spend some time in Ulanbataar outside of the tour but absolutely fantastic experience!

  It was a once in a lifetime experience that I did with my daughter and we will never forget !! The trip was well organized from start to finish and very affordable. Our guide was young and very energetic and the horses and camels used for the trek were well cared for. The cook and food prepared was extraordinary especially for the remote conditions we were experiencing. Be prepared for all weather conditions, camping with limited facilities and no cell service for days . If you are ready to drop out and be lost in the beautiful Altai Mountains of Mongolia this is the trip you have been waiting for !! Jenny

  What can I say...it was perfect!! We were picked up at the airport by our guide Bek and Duaren who owns the company. We spent 8 days in the Tavan Bogd area hiking and eventually climbing Mt Khuiten. The price was very fair! Our guide Bek was a wealth of information. He was always looking after our needs, and was a kind, helpful person. Our cook, Fariza, was out of this world. She produced the most amazing meals...I've never eaten so well in the back country! Everything was super organized and we felt so well taken care of. Our mountain guide on the Khuiten climb was awesome and Bek met us on the trail on the way back with a celebratory beer! Do not hesitate to use this company!! They are a local company based in Ulgii and hire locals. Thank you Discover Altai Travel!!!

  The scenery along the journey was truly stunning, with glaciers, grasslands, and mountain valleys. Even in mid-August, heavy snow was still falling on the mountains, and some sections of the rocky slopes were somewhat dangerous. However, the tour guide, cook, and horseman who accompanied us were all very dedicated, giving us a wonderful and unforgettable adventure.

  A professionally prepared expedition, with an excellent manager, excellent guides, drivers, and a cook. A wonderful experience of the wild nature of the Altai Mountains and the Altai culture of the indigenous people of this area. I highly recommend Discover Altai.

  The hiking tour with Discover Altai was truly a once in a lifetime experience! This was definitely one of my favorite treks that I've done so far. Our guides, Bekbolat (Bek) and Khydyrbek (Alan) took amazing care of us and were a lot of fun to travel with for 8 days of hiking. Our chefs, Bulbul and Tosh, fed us so well throughout our trip and the rest of our support team, drivers and camel herders, all took great care of us as well. The 8 day hike itself was definitely harder than expected due to the length and altitude, but it was very rewarding to hike in such a beautiful country at a place that is still relatively untouched. I have already recommended this tour to other friends and I hope to be back soon!

  We just returned from an incredible trip with Discover Altai, and it is grateful that we chose Dauren and his amazing team! Traveling as a family with our 7-year-old daughter, and they went above and beyond to accommodate us with our specified needs. A shout-out to our experienced tour guide, Shokhan, who made the whole trip especially the horse trekking experience unforgettable. It was our daughter's first time riding, and Shokhan took extra care to ensure she felt safe and comfortable throughout the entire hour-long trek. His attention to detail and genuine kindness made us worry-free as parents. The entire team, from the talented cook who prepared delicious meals to the skilled drivers who navigated the beautiful landscapes, truly exceeded our expectations. Every aspect of the tour was well-organized and tailored to our family’s needs. The horse trekking was absolutely amazing, and the stunning Altai scenery left us in awe.   Dauren and his team were extremely diligent and caring. Our trip had to be adjusted due to a friend's schedule, and Dauren was really accommodating. Once the trip started, we were amazed by how well prepared the team was. Our guide Bek and the chef were both incredible, ensuring every detail was covered. 10/10 would highly recommend Dauren and Discover Altai!

  I’m Canadian do quite a bit of trekking around the world. I did the Horse Trekking tour June 2025. The guide Nurgabat made the experience he was professional, friendly, and adaptive. Make sure to ask for him! ;) The trek itself incredible experience and unforgettable. It’s the first time I was motivated to write a review so here we are. HIGHLY recommend this.
