• If you love the redwoods, this is for you!

  This is one of the funnest things you can do while in the Mendocino area! The check-in process/instructional video probaly could be cut in half, but understand "safety' precautions. They do provide a small basket for you to bring some personal items - most railbikes had water botter holders (ours did not). Pretty simple to operate, and no super level of fitness is required. There are a few stops along the way - history lessons - good stuff, if you're interested. Once you arrive at the end of the rail, snacks, full bar and restrooms available, and plenty of seating with games available. The (optional) hike with Sochi is about a mile long, and she does an amazing job explaining plant life, energy of the redwoods and general history of the area. There is plenty of time after the hike to kick back and enjoy a lunch (if you pack one), or go on the self-guided hike (you're here for about one hour). Ride back is non-stop. Wish they had a tip jar - we just gave the tip to one of the three staff - we didn't have change to split amongst them. All the staff were phenomenal!

  

  

• A great ride on the Railbikes

  The railbikes were great! We rode through the redwoods, had a break at Glen Junction where we did 1 mile loop among the redwoods before our return. The railbikes were power-assisted so very easy to pedal. Our guides, Travis and Johnny, were excellent - very knowledgeable about the history and made sure we were comfortable and safe.   We enjoyed the skunk bikes tour. Tour guides are knowledgeable, helpful and funny. We loved the four road crossings and hanging out at glen blair and doing the short loop trail

• Riding the Railbikes.

  Dress in layers. So much fun. Bring money for lunch/drinks. Loved it!!! Take the hike as well, it's gorgeous!

• Skunk train ride

  Fantastic staff, beautiful scenery, excellent service. I highly recommend the Skunk Train tour. Ride is easy and can be done by any bike experience. Overall, lovely experience all around!

  

  

  

  

  

  

  

  

  

• Great for a special occasion

  We signed up for the 10 AM rail ride in. We really enjoyed ourselves. It’s about 3 1/2 miles out in about 3 1/2 back! The guides were wonderful. They were very clear with the directions and we had a wonderful time. It was not difficult at all and you actually could do this without peddling at all if you wanted to because the bikes are motor assisted. We spent about an hour or so at the forest pavilion and while we were there, we took a really nice hike up into the redwoods, and our guy did a great job of explaining all the flowers and the different trees in the area. It is a little expensive, but they do offer military discount. I think it would be worth it if you want a different experience and something different. The skunk train actually goes to the same location if you don’t wanna ride the rails.

  This was a really fun experience. Johnny, our main guide, was great. The rail bikes ran well, the scenery was great, and overall, well worth the cost. Would definitely do this again if we have the opportunity.

• Noyo rail bikes

  We did the Noyo rail bike tour and it was one of the best trips! Sochi and Atlas were amazing. Sochi has an amazing spirit and knowledge of the redwoods, plants, and Noyo river. We highly recommend this! Lunch was great! Scenary and tour was epic!! We will be back.

  This excursion is pretty overrated. You are only on the railbike tops 15 minutes each way. It brings you to a stop where you can either chill at the bar and tables for about an hour, or take a foot guided tour of the flora on a walking path (not very rigorous). This would be worth about $75/person at best, but not $125 each. Kids would probably dig it. But it just is too short of time on the bikes to be worth the $250 for 2 people. ADVICE if you go during cold weather and you are the one operating the controls, bring gloves cuz your hand will get pretty cold (and numb) against the wind generated from the moving bike.

• Fun Experience, But Poor Handling of Dog Accommodations

  My husband and I booked a rail bike experience a week in advance on the Pudding Creek route for a Thursday afternoon, and we planned to bring our dog along. About 45 minutes before our scheduled time, a representative called to ask about our dog’s breed. After learning he was on the smaller side, they asked if we would consider holding him in a “backpack” instead of using the crate we had already reserved, because another customer with a larger dog needed one. Before agreeing, we arrived early to see if the backpack would work—only to discover it was actually a cooler. Our dog was clearly too big to fit comfortably, and despite being told they could cut holes in the bag for his feet and tail, we declined and asked to keep our original reservation. What was especially frustrating was how the situation was handled. At times, it felt like we were being gaslit—as if this was a normal or reasonable alternative, when it clearly wasn’t. We had planned ahead, reserved appropriately for our dog, and still felt pressured to compromise his comfort and safety. That said, the rail bike experience itself was awesome! Our dog really enjoyed the trailer crate—it gave him shade and comfort throughout the ride. Even if a proper dog backpack had been available, I wouldn’t recommend holding your dog during the ride, as it would likely take away from the experience. What disappointed me most was the lack of care shown for our dog’s well-being. It felt like the priority shifted to accommodating more customers rather than honoring our reservation and ensuring a safe, comfortable experience. Suggesting that our dog be placed in what was essentially a backpack cooler didn’t sit right with me. I do hope this is something they learn from, because overall, this is still a place I would recommend—and one I’d consider revisiting for a different experience.
