Become part of a living legacy beneath the waves.
Join our local community’s 7-year journey in coral restoration—where each participant plants 70 corals, restoring 4 m² of reef by hand. Through typical NGOs, this kind of impact would cost hundreds of dollars—yet no one offers what we do, at this price, with this depth of experience.
We’ll equip you with essential reef knowledge: coral biology, ocean conditions, and how damaged ecosystems are brought back to life. Then, you’ll snorkel at our reef nursery, plant your corals, and help rebuild what the ocean has lost.
As island locals, we know every current and coastline. You’ll connect with our culture, community, and conservation efforts in the most authentic way.
Instead of a pricey “coral adoption,” you’ll get the real thing:

️ Local lunch
Knot-tying lesson
3 guided snorkeling experiences

This was a really special experience to be a part of. I am a big fan of the ocean and conservation and this was the perfect mix of enjoying the beautiful reef whilst also giving back to it. Gede was our instructor for the day and he was friendly, generous, and knowledagable. We had wonderful conversations, particularly when we were prepping the coral for planting. It was inspiring to see how much positive impact the plantings are giving to the coral reef as well as the community (which is so important to the success of Ecotourism Nusa Penida). Plantings from only seven years ago are flourishing and as such are beginning to introduce newer coral species as well as providing habitat for marine fauna. I could not recommend this experience more, so if you're thinking of doing it, do it! :)

From pickup to drop off, our guides were excellent, knowledgeable, kind, & communicative hosts. Their love of sustainability, coral, and Indonesia (specifically Nusa Pendina) shown through every aspect of the day. We were able to assist in a beach cleanup with children at a local school, attend an excellent coral presentation, & assist in planting over 16 meters and 280 pieces of coral in the sanctuary! Snorkeling over the coral planted over the last 6 years was undoubtedly the best part. Seeing how the reef was thriving and how our efforts would soon be a part of that change—spectacular! Many thanks to Festi and Raffael for the perfect day. We cannot recommend this experience enough for people looking for sustainable reef experiences & genuine cultural connection. We look forward to our next visit!

Very nice structured course. We had a super interesting talk and discussion about corals. Afterwards we went out to collect some corals of opportunity and brought them out to the nursery to give them a second chance to grow. This is just an amazing Project!!! Thank you guys it was amazing!

Had a great time finding out about Reef Rehabilitation. Loved the coral garden! Learnt how to work the coral, tie them to ropes, and then tie them on the seabed. Many thanks to Nyoman, Festi and the team for the information and for what they are doing for the Reef. Best wishes!!

Ever built your own coral reef? -No? Then EcoTourism Nusa Penida is the place for you. Supports the local NGO in reef rescue, collects coral splinters underwater, learns the special coral knot technique and plants 50 corals in one day on the seabed of the coast. So everyone builds their own personal reef. In just 5 years the pieces of coral have grown into a colourful coral reef. In an exciting presentation, learn incredible and surprising facts and secrets about the corals and their incredibly important task to conserve the biodiversity of the oceans and thus to balance our climate. The ecoTourism is located in one of the most important areas for the conservation of the coral population worldwide. From here the corals multiply all over the world. And who knows, maybe part of your own reef will establish a new "colony" in the Maldives or off Australia? Want to do more good for the world with your holiday? Then help EcoTourism Nusa Penida reforest the mangrove forests on another day, learn how carbon offsetting works through tango cultivation or help map the overwhelmingly majestic manta rays that live here on a snorkel trip.

I learned so much about corals and about the ocean. Did you know that the oceans give us the half of the oxygen we breathe? We could go snorkeling and plant corals with the team. A real nice activity, where you have fun and feel useful at the same time.
