The reindeer and the Sami have been living and working on this land for centuries and they have only recently invited guests to be part of their daily life. You will visit their camp and have a chance to feed the herd of around 300 wild reindeer who will swarm all around and some will even eat from your hands. You will then be invited for hot drinks around the fire inside a warm candlelit gamme (Traditional Sami Hut) where lunch, bidos, cooked over the open fire will be served (a traditional Sami stew which is often served at Sami weddings and other special occasions).
After lunch you will be invited into a lavvu (Sami tent) and gather around the fire to listen to stories about Sami culture and how it is to be a reindeer herder. The Sami guide will also perform a joik (traditional Sami song) for the guests.

After meeting at the Prostneset bus terminal take the bus for a 25-minute drive by the nice coast of Tromsø to arrive at the destination, the Sami camp, where the reindeer and the rest of our guides will be waiting for you.
Start your Sami experience by hand-feeding a herd of 300 reindeer before entering the gamme for a hot traditional meal cooked over the fire. Finish the day by gathering around the fire to enjoy the sounds of joiking (songs), Sami history and stories.

5.00The reindeers were beautiful. The Sami guide was very knowledgeable with his culture (obviously) as well as his area of expertise, the reindeers.

5.00Well organized pickup by buses, with enough time for sledding as well as feeding the reindeer. It felt a tad bit uncomfortable going in two loops over chunks of ice 😅 as it had rained just the day before; and I’m sure it is comparatively easier even for the reindeer to pull the sleds over snow. We were told a lot about Sami culture and the reindeer, in front of a warm fire with hot drinks, cookies and bidos!

5.00First of the coach took us along the shoreline as the sun was rising we got some pretty views over the mountains. Then as soon as we got there we dropped our bags off and fed the reindeers for about an hour. This was a lot of fun and the reindeers were very hungry. After feeding we then headed into the wooden camp where there was a big fire, had some hot chocolate and some stew After an hour we then headed to the Sami tent and heard all about the Sami people, learnt how to yoik and kept warm.

4.00The reindeer were surprisingly tame anf fun to feed. I was disappointed that there wasn't much evidence of Sami culture. The Sami stories were great but he was the only one dressed in traditional dress and there was no singing or dancing. The lunch was very poor. We are coeliacs so had to have the vegetarian option which was just a soup. Would have loved to try reindeer meat but they added flour to thicken it.

2.00Didn’t enjoy this as much as I wanted to!! We were left sitting for about two hours inside with nothing to do, and it was soooo colddddddd. My only complaint is the pace of the activities. Otherwise, everyone was kind and helpful! Other people seemed to be having a great time - so perhaps this was just not for me. PS. You will leave smelling like reindeer and firewood so don’t wear clothes you can’t easily wash!

4.00Very nice experience and very good organization. You have enough time for the reindeer and a large area to be alone. In addition, you get a good impression of the culture of the Samis. We were lucky and were still able to see the Northern Lights in the evening. But you should be prepared for it to be a mass handling, but it is perfectly under control. There's no way I would book the sleigh ride. You only drive slowly in circles near the farm. You can save that. What's still important to me, I'm handled very well by reindeer

5.00We truly enjoyed this family-friendly experience. This would be very memorable for children to be up close with such magnificent creatures. Just a warning though: those antlers are long and sharp and could poke hard when they bend down to eat. I also enjoyed the story of the Sami. Our Sami host, Danel, was very funny and honest. I would enjoy hearing his stories again.
