Juanjo was professional, knowledgeable and friendly. We learned a lot about Albariño production, the Rías Bajas, and mussel farming. The boat ride to see the mussel beds was quite enjoyable. The crew brought tray after tray of steamed mussels to the tables, and later, as the music played, people were dancing, singing, and having a great time! After our boat adventure, Juanjo showed us MANY places of interest. We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Juanjo and highly recommend this adventure.

My husband and I had the pleasure of being taken on the Rias Baixas mussel farm and wine tasting tour by Juanjo. He was very knowledgeable and showed us some of the true gems in this region. We were able to have a private tour and tasting of a local winery with some of the best albarinho wine in the region. Additionally, the mussel farm boat tour was interesting, but the highlights were the unlimited delicious mussels and wine. We explored a few other areas in the region and learned a lot about the history and culture. For lunch, Juanjo got us into a local restaurant that served an endless supply of seafood and albraino wine. We truly had a lovely day and appreciated Juanjo's time and company. Would highly recommend this experience!

Booked this tour with Civitatis and it was truly a gem of an experience. Our tour guide Lucia was informative and knew the whole history on the region as well as all of the sites we went to visit. The only suggestion I would give it's the map location on where to meet, I had to call the office and asked exactly where the meeting place was. We visited the Adega Eidos winery and all of the wines were delicious. Then went to have boat tour with all the mussels you can eat along with more wines, it was truly worth every penny spent. Afterwards we finish by visiting Cambarro and the beach area, very beautiful area.

Punctual! I was immediately comfortable with Juanjo Cuenca, who is widely knowledgeable about not only the Galicia region but of the food, culture and people. He also speaks perfect English and lived in the States for 5 years, which made for fun conversation. I loved the wine tasting and the bilingual proprietor of the winery. No pressure at all to buy to ship home. I would have stayed all day to learn more. Mussels! I adore mussels and I was not disappointed. The boat was fun. You are given a huge tub of steamed mussels to eat with wine, water or soda. You’re taken to a mussels farm offshore to see how they are cultivated. Very interesting. Afterward, we took a stroll around the ancient walkways with restaurants and boutiques and Juanjo pointed out interesting regional points. We had lunch at a small, quiet out of the way place for the most outstanding Pulpo I have ever had. The time went quickly. I highly recommend this very customer-customized trip. I am not able to walk long distances and Juanjo immediately shortened the walk. He is a complete gentleman, knowledgeable and a very special tour operator.

Juanjo is an exceptional guide and this tour is amazing. Juanjo has a wealth of knowledge about the region’s history and wine industry. Our stop at the winery was delightful, boat ride was great with all you can eat mussels- mussel farm visit was fun. Seafood lunch was amazing and views of the sea from along the coast were beautiful. Juanjo is a professional and knows how to make this tour a memorable experience. It was a great capstone and change of pace to see the beautiful Galician coast after walking the inland Camino De Santiago French Way. Don’t miss this tour with Juanjo!!

After much research on the internet, we selected the “One day Rias Baixas private tour” offered by Tours of Galicia, and we could not have done better. Juanjo Cuenca is an expert tour guide, and more. He is a fount of knowledge, well-prepared, flexible, and knows how to read his clients. My wife and I have done winery tours in the United States, like Albariño, and we both speak Spanish. Our conversation with Juanjo shifted back and forth seamlessly between his excellent colloquial English and Spanish, as the situation required. We were picked up at our hotel in Santiago, on time, and proceeded to the Salnés valley for a tour of four wineries in Juan’s comfortable SUV, which had bottled water and rechargers for our phones. We visited two small and two medium-sized wineries. We learned about the grape, the vineyards, the harvesting, and differences in wine production, and creative ways wineries in Galicia are making the most of the Albariño grape. All offered tastings with snacks. In one we bought a surprisingly good sparkling Albariño (who knew there was such a thing?!!!), cosmetics, and a wine reduction jam. In another, we bought a bottle of delicious Galician grappa called “Orujo.” In a third, we bought three bottles of phenomenal Albariño. For lunch, Juanjo offered a couple of options, and we opted for a “furrancho,” an informal family-run eating establishment where the draw is the home-made Albariño. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was homey (a family came in all dressed as cowboys and girls, as it was carnival season), and the Albariño served in traditional saucers/cups was surprisingly good. Along the way, we talked constantly about the history and culture of Galicia, the topography, land tenure, economics, etc. Juanjo would point out salient features and sites, and he offered a few stops that were great: the “lonxa” at Cambados, where we were able to see the fishermen’s catch before the daily auction and the church of St. James in Padrón (where St. James’ remains arrived in Spain). We were very lucky, as the church of Santa María de Iria Flavia, where Nobel Price literature winner Camilo Jose Cela is buried, happened to be open. We were also lucky, as the weather was sunny and cool—not what you’d expect in late February. Having said that, it was Juanjo who made the day. We had high expectations, and they were exceeded in every way.
