• Beautiful Roatán, Super Hot Day, and a Bit of Guesswork

  We booked a private tour in Roatán through Viator and overall had a good experience, though there were a few things worth noting for future travelers. Meeting up was a bit chaotic. After leaving the port, we had to walk quite a distance to the designated area, where there were many taxi drivers calling out and offering rides. It felt overwhelming at first, but to be fair, most of them were actually trying to help us find our driver. Once we located the tour company, we waited about 5-7 minutes for our driver to arrive. Our driver, Melissa, was very kind, friendly, and easy to talk to. Her English was excellent, which made communication easy. However, we were hoping for more of a guided, cultural experience, and it felt like she wasn’t fully prepared for that type of tour. Since it was our first time in Roatán, we were relying on her to lead the way - but she frequently asked us where we wanted to go. That put us in a bit of an awkward position since we didn’t know the area at all. At one point, she even called her boss for suggestions, which added to the feeling that the tour lacked direction. That said, we still made the most of it and enjoyed the time. We visited the West End and stopped at a restaurant for lunch at her recommendation, which was a great spot for views. The food was mediocre. One small thing that didn’t sit quite right with us - we invited Melissa to join us for lunch and covered her meal, but she didn’t acknowledge it with a thank you. Not a huge deal, but something we noticed. Also, just a heads up for other travelers: be mindful when dining, as we had a situation where our server tried to tell us a tip wasn’t included, even though it clearly was listed (“propina”) on the bill. When questioned, he gave a different explanation, so it’s worth double-checking your receipt. Also… it was HOT. Like, hotter-than-heck hot 😂 Apparently there was a volcano erupting in Guatemala while we were there, which we were told contributed to the extreme heat across the region. Pretty wild experience, and despite the heat, the views around Roatán were absolutely beautiful and definitely made up for it. In the end, we’re giving 5 stars because we truly don’t want to negatively impact the company, and we did have a good time overall. But we hope this feedback helps improve the experience for future guests - especially in providing a more structured and informative tour for first-time visitors.

  You can put the tour together yourself. Our driver did very well. The price-performance ratio is right. We had a lovely time in Roatan.

  We really enjoyed the personal touch. We were met at the port by our guide (unfortunately, we did not get his name but he was the owners husband). He was very knowledgeable and informative and was willing to take us wherever we chose to go. We felt very comfortable with him and he was helpful taking pictures and showing us the highlights of the island. We would definitely recommend him!
