You might be surprised to learn that ‘Gladiator’ didn’t get everything right and that feats of ancient engineering even allowed the Romans to re-enact naval battles here.

The next stop takes you back to the very beginning. The Palatine Hill is the spot Romulus chose to found the city that would become Rome in 753 BC – a decision that ended in tragedy for his brother Remus. Here, steeped in history, you’ll enjoy spectacular views overlooking your next destination: the Roman Forum.

Well led tour and so very interesting. Barbara was an excellent tour guide. She navigated us through heavy crowds and kept us entertained. Be ready for a long tour, but part of that time is because of facilities, or lack thereof: there aren’t nearly enough women’s bathrooms.

Don’t be late. We were late arriving. We own that fact. Reason for our tardiness was the train from the cruise terminal to Rome was about 20 min late and it was very tough finding the meet up location (we spent 15-20 min searching…the employees were under a tree, avoiding the sun). We eventually found the employees and arrived about 15 min after our scheduled time. Employees just gave us our ticket to the colosseum and basically said “good luck”. No texting the tour guide to see if we could catch up, no offer to join another tour, just gave us the tickets and said that they fulfilled their obligation. The website and app were useless for helping to find the meeting location, it gave you an automated reply that they were “busy” and provided a phone number for customer service in Australia. Again, we were late and accept that fact, but the support (things happen when traveling in a different country…) was nonexistent. There are tons of other options for tours and I would recommend you look at those before this one. Also - we had an awesome experience with our tickets for the Vatican (different company), later that day. That organization called before our meeting time to check in and help get us very directions to their office, that was great.
