The name Rongai Route is actually something of a misnomer. Sure, it’s the name that everybody uses but, strictly speaking, it’s not the correct one. The real, original Rongai Route used to start at the border village of the same name but was closed several years ago by the authorities who decided that two trails on a side of the mountain that few trekkers visit was unnecessary.
You will still see this route marked on many maps, but today all trekkers who wish to climb Kili from the north now follow a different trail, also known as the Loitokitok Route after the village that lies near the start. (Just to confuse the issue still further, this isn’t officially the correct name either, for along the trail you’ll see various signs calling this trail the Nalemuru Route – or, occasionally, Nalemoru – though this name is rarely used by anybody.)

I summitted Kilimanjaro 3 months ago and it was an amazing adventure. I am not experienced in mountain climbing but thank God there are professional people like Amos and his team of expert mountain guides at Migration Venture who made our dream possible. I remember Senior guide Nicholas teaching us about the different flora and fauna found at different altitudes, taking our BP and oxygen levels every morning & evening. It was 6 days of trekking long distances with the best. I give 5 stars for the crew, 5 stars for the food and another 5 stars for excellent equipment.

The Kilimanjaro trekking is a absolutely unique experience. I did the trekking with Migration Venture Africa and in retrospective I can state: it was an excellent choice. Special thanks go to our two guides, Size Mrema and Nicholas Wiso, the cook and and the porters. They all did a excellent job! With my 72 years of age the Kili trekking was not a little thing. Mrema and Nicholas gave us the motivation to perserve. The feeling when standing on the top is just great! Thank you so much!

My boyfriend and I went on a trek to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro for our third year anniversary. We used Migration Venture Africa after doing extensive research. The company made our climb an unforgettable experience. Amos the director was wonderful to work with during the booking process. He provided us with a lot of information on the various routes used to climb Kilimanjaro. The information came in handy in choosing the most suitable route for us. We decided to go with the Rongai route which had less traffic and was a little easier than other routes. The company provided us with top notch equipment. Our tent was big and the sleeping bags were warm and comfortable. Nicholas was the senior guide assisted by Epa together with porters, and a cook was amazing. They were excellent at their jobs and were very helpful. I would have given up before reaching the peak without their support and encouragement. The team was also fun to be around. At night, we would sit around a fire, having delicious dinner and talking about a lot of things. One of the porters taught me Swahili and I can still remember a few words. The cook did an amazing job of feeding us. The food that he prepared was excellent and up to standard. On summit day, we left camp at around midnight and began the hard climb to Uhuru peak. It was so challenging that I almost gave up. My guide encouraged me and led me through paths that I could handle. The climb was really hard but the view from the peak made all the effort worth it. I was staring at the spectacular sunrise when everything grew quite suddenly. I turned around and my boyfriend was on one knee. He proposed right there with the magnificent sunrise behind me and the picture perfect snow all around us. Migration Venture Africa gave me a lot of happy memories on Kilimanjaro.

I came to Tanzania with my younger brother with the intent of conquering Kilimanjaro and we had chosen the Rongai route to avoid the other crowded routes and also get the great views Rongai is famed for. Our guides Vitalis and Eric were friendly, supportive and true professionals who led our troupe successfully to the the summit. The porters were also very friendly and hardworking young men who will definitely make great guides in the future. Everything was well organized so that we never lacked in terms of support. The porters helped us in setting up the tents when we arrived in the campsites that kept us warm even on the coldest nights. One of porters Mushi also handled our chemical toilet and it is not a very enviable job! I cannot forget to commend our cook Martin who made us sumptuous hot meals every day that were on that mountain. I fondly recall the evenings that we spent listening to wonderful stories from Vitalis and Eric and the daily briefing in the mornings. My experience at the summit was worth every ounce of energy I expended to get to the top and this was only possible because of the support I got from the Migration Venture Africa team. I recommend them highly!

We went on the Kilimanjaro Trek Rongai route on a tour organized by Amos of Migration Venture Africa. He took care of all the details for our trip, permits, transfers and logistics. He was expecting us because when we arrived we found everything in place. We went with chief guide Peter-the African Superman who took great care of us, we were in good hands and never worried about anything. I am very happy that we made it to the summit using the route with amazing views and not crowded. Migration Venture have made it possible to cross out Kilimanjaro from our bucket list. Kudos Amos!! Kudos Migration Venture Africa. Recommended absolutely.

We Chose to do the Rongai route because we were hoping to get some privacy with my fiancee and also enjoy the spectacular scenery the route is known for during the climb. We came in from Amboseli Kenya and found Vitalis who was also our head guide for the climb waiting for us at the border. He transferred us to our hotel where he gave us a detailed briefing about our climb and also inspected our equipment. The climb to the summit is a very elaborate undertaking. So many check and counter checks to make sure that everything goes right. We had our health check which became a daily affair during the trek. We had a great time with Vitalis and his crew, they had positive vibe that kept us motivated and going even when we were almost giving up. I must also congratulate the chef for keeping us well fed with very delicious and FRESH meals despite being away from the grocery stores. We enjoyed the privacy afforded by the route a lot and the landscape views are so beautiful. We spent so much time snapping them up that at times we made it to camp later than we should have. We are very happy with this company and have even planned a Safari to Serengeti around October/November. Fully recommended
