Curious to encounter Lapland's most iconic animal and see what life is like on an authentic Lapland reindeer farm? Join our tour as we drive away from the overcrowded tourist sites, to meet and feed these gentle Arctic animals and learn about the history and culture of reindeer herding from our guide/owner, who himself is descendant of a reindeer herding family. After the reindeer meet-up, you'll be able to relax by an open fire with hot drinks and snacks before heading out walking your very own reindeer through the quiet, snowy forest. This slow-paced, small-group tour is designed for comfort and an authentic connection to Lapland’s way of life.

Today we visited White Winter Lapland and what a welcome change of pace from our other experiences in and around Rovaniemi. If you're searching for a taste of the 'real Lapland' this is not to be missed. Don't get me wrong the sparkle of Rovaniemi's many attractions mostly live up to expectations, but despite the crowds (and, at times, overt commercialism) our kids still got a kick out of all things Christmas here. However, this trip was without doubt the highlight for us. Led by a third generation reindeer farmer, Juho, we were taken to a serene and welcoming farm ~45mins outside of Rovaniemi. The location was as you would expect, beautiful snow shrouded forest in every direction, blanketed by a slight fog that lent an additional level of calm. We were introduced to the herd - a traditional part-wild group, initially skittish around new people, but with a brave few who warmed up to the promise of food. In time four or five were coming closer to be hand fed, at times bumping each other out of the way for tasty lichen treats. After the kids had fed and introduced themselves to many of the brave half-wild herd, it was time to take one of the tamer reindeer for a walk, following a track through fields and forest, cajoling our new friend along with lichen here and there. Our guide was knowledgeable, patient and kind, answering all the possible questions a 10, 8 & 5 year old can conjure - and there were many! Returning from our walk to a cosy hut, with a fire, warm drinks, and home made tasty treats for the humans, along with Liisa, Juho's mother, and interesting insights into her journey to life in the country, was equally comforting and fascinating. We could have stayed all day! We'd give it an extra star if we could!

It has been quite a few years since I visited this reindeer farm (when it also only functioned as a farm and was not open to the public), but it is etched in my memory as yesterday. Lapland has something so magical, and your journey is complete when you really get to experience the most authentic Lapse experience. And that's this place. The serenity, the animals, the surroundings, the Lapse family: it doesn't get more authentic than this. And you feel it. They keep it cozy and personal, calm and friendly.

They don’t officially open until December but we contacted them for an early winter visit and they were happy to help. This reindeer farm was cosy and quiet, middle of nature. The reindeer were nice and very liked by our children. The guide/owner was friendly. He shared stories and dropped some reindeer history as it runs in their family. I can imagine this being better during winter but nevertheless, we enjoeyd it a lot. Very authentic experience and affordable aswell. They pick you up from the centre so it’s convenient. Recommended!
