Plaza Mayor
The name of the plaza has changed over time. It has been known as "Plaza del Arrabal", "Plaza de la Constitución", "Plaza Real", "Plaza de la República" and now "Plaza Mayor". These names reflect events, history and reign in Spanish history. "Plaza del Arrabal" was the original name of the present day "Plaza Mayor". The "Plaza del Arrabal" was once the site of the most popular marketplace until the end of 15th century. Following the Constitution of 1812, all major plazas in Spain were renamed "Plaza de la Constitución". It also held this name 1820 to 1823, 1833 to 1835, 1840 to 1843, and 1876 to 1922. When the Borbón king was restored in 1814, it became known as the "Plaza Real". In 1873, the name changed to "Plaza de la República". At the end of the Spanish Civil War the plaza received its present name of "Plaza Mayor".

5.00If there is one attraction that you wouldn’t want to miss in Madrid then it is the Royal Palace. Our tour guide was such an amazing host who walked and talked us through the entire tour - right from the ticket area to the palace. The palace is grand

2.00Beatriz our guide was amazing, personable and entertaining. However we signed up for a small group tour of 14 or 15, and the number of people in the group was literally double that. There were at least 3 times that our group was too large and long to fit into the room, and I couldn’t be in the same room to see what Beatriz was talking about. So beware if you sign up for a small group tour, because this company over sells and makes the groups too big, so you pay extra for something they don’t deliver—the classic bait and switch. Also we arrived ahead of our time, and when we tried to check in, they just dismissed us and told us to join the very long line. Once they got to us, they said we were late.

5.00Great tour guide! The experience was fun and informative. The route planning was reasonable. The guide gave a total of 2 hours introduction to the Spanish culture, history, and architecture. Definitely recommend!

1.00Our tour was cancelled by your company the day before and I have not yet received a refund. The Palace was closed to visitors on the day we were supposed to visit.

2.00While vey nice, our guide still had an accent that made it difficult to understand her English. Also, she left very quickly at the end of the tour. She also never noticed that one person left in the mddle of the tour.

5.00Fantastic tour, well worth it! Andrea was a phenomenal guide, knowledgeable, with a great sense of humor. Beautiful palace, learned a great deal about the current monarchy and royal history of Spain.

5.00This was an awesome and thorough tour. Beatriz was an excellent tour guide and provided us with a great overview of the city and palace! She also did a great job of answering all our questions. I would recommend this tour to all my family and friends.

1.00Good morning, I was shocked and dismayed to find out that my Guided English tour of the Royal Palace on 16/11/2025 was cancelled without notice. As you know the tickets for tours and entrance sell out very early so we had no other way of visiting the palace. The in store representative promised a full refund because you couldn’t provide the English tour. I was very upset at this and eventually it was agreed that we could gain entrance with the ticket but would have to pretend to be with the Spanish tour. Your staff member promised me that we would still be refunded in full because we weren’t getting any guide which was promised. We were very frustrated and embarrassed by being pointed out to the Spanish speaking group and laughed at but we had no other choice. When we went in to the palace we had our audio guides confiscated and were sent on our own way. We had only a very short time in the palace because we had no guide to explain to us about the rich history and artefacts we were seeing. We have now been denied the refund promised. The staff member lied to us and this is dishonest and disingenuous. Being let down for the tour is one thing, being deceived by staff is a completely different and abhorrent act.
Informative tour well worth the money!

5.00We had a great tour despite a torrential downpour on the way to the palace. Mari was a great guide and packed so much information into the tour! It was so nice to be able to skip the line to get into the palace as the lines were very long on a rainy day. Would definitely recommend this tour!

5.00The meeting point is not at the palace but a 10 minute walk away. It’s a small store. Small group, well organized.
