Only 15 passengers maximum for this semi-private visit to the Royal Palace. We will start our visit from Calle Mayor 43, to get to know the Plaza Mayor, Calle del Codo, Plaza de la Villa and finally reach the Royal Palace through Calle Bailén.

Plaza Mayor
The name of the plaza has changed over time. It has been known as "Plaza del Arrabal", "Plaza de la Constitución", "Plaza Real", "Plaza de la República" and now "Plaza Mayor". These names reflect events, history and reign in Spanish history. "Plaza del Arrabal" was the original name of the present day "Plaza Mayor". The "Plaza del Arrabal" was once the site of the most popular marketplace until the end of 15th century. Following the Constitution of 1812, all major plazas in Spain were renamed "Plaza de la Constitución". It also held this name 1820 to 1823, 1833 to 1835, 1840 to 1843, and 1876 to 1922. When the Borbón king was restored in 1814, it became known as the "Plaza Real". In 1873, the name changed to "Plaza de la República". At the end of the Spanish Civil War the plaza received its present name of "Plaza Mayor".

5.00The walking tour was excellent, our guide Beatrice was great. Full of knowledge and we loved her sense of humour too! It's worth having a guide when going through the palace, so you know what you are looking at, plus she has some extra fun facts! :)

5.00Jesus gave an interesting and informative tour, combining the role of the monarchy historically and in modern times, and the relationships with the monarchs and leaders in Spain with neighbouring countries. He also explained the the influences, similarities and dissimilarities of Spain's monarchy and palace customs contrasted with those other countries including Italy, Denmark, The Netherlands, and France. Jesus speaks very good English. He was easy to understand and interacted spontaneously with tour participants.

5.00Our guide, Lydia, was excellent and thorough. Even with a large crowd, both the tour and the other visitors to the Royal Palace, I would recommend her unequivocally. Need to understand the definition of "small group" as we were with a small group of 28!! Not what we expected by any stretch of the imagination. Enjoyed the walking tour through Madrid and thought length was very adequate.

4.00Very important to book ‘Skip the line’ tickets. Make sure you have a guide. Wear comfy shoes. We really enjoyed this tour because our guide, Pilar, was excellent and gave us a lot of background about the history of Spain and in particular Madrid. This was so useful and added to our experience.

1.00The tour was good! However, we did NOT skip the line! They really can’t control this so beware you may want awhile. The actual tour was not close to 2 + hours - it was number an hour in the palace. .We really feel the description was deceptive. They told us they were closing early and couldn’t offer and discount us if the tour was short. Just be aware or ask questions. I am always happy with Viator but this tour company Fun and Tickets not so great!
