St. Vincent Gate (Porte Saint-Vincent) is the main entrance to the walled city of Saint-Malo, built in the 18th century to replace an earlier medieval gate. Framed by twin stone towers and a drawbridge once spanning a moat, it leads directly into the lively heart of the old town. Above the arch, you’ll see the coat of arms of Saint-Malo and decorative carvings. Today, it's the first glimpse many visitors have of the city’s fortified charm, opening onto cobbled streets, granite buildings, and centuries of privateer history.
Chateaubriand Square (Place Chateaubriand) is a central gathering spot within the walled city of Saint-Malo, named after the famous Romantic writer and native son François-René de Chateaubriand. Flanked by classic Breton architecture, cafés, and the imposing Château de Saint-Malo, the square buzzes with life, especially in summer. It’s a perfect starting point for exploring the old town or pausing for a coffee amid the sea breeze and echoes of Saint-Malo’s storied literary and maritime past.

A nice collection of historical stories and landmarks/buildings in the old town. The gps tracking worked well to guide us from stop to stop.

Saint-Malo with an audio guide was a real discovery! I truly felt I was exploring a living maritime city, not just a pretty seaside postcard. It’s also perfect for moving at your own pace. I loved how the guide gently shapes the route: from Saint-Vincent Gate to the cathedral, then up to the bastions with emerald-sea views. The episodes are short and vivid—storms, sieges, legends of shipwreck survivors — while around you it’s all salt wind and gulls. Goosebumps.

A good guide, quite well-made itenary, lots of pirate stories (what you'd expect from such a city in terms of historical context, all those corsairs and their exploits, a little about Brittany itself; but local pirates, obviously, ARE the main focus, prob half of content -- just kind expect this). Some stuff I knew already, but some was pretty neat fresh info. The route sort of covers the city along the wall, with various info on fortification, some jokes, bit about local food. At the end, we go to a pier jutting out into the sea (a great ending, although it depends on the weather, of course! It shouldn't be super cold or windy). The voiceover isn't annoying (which is crucial in guides). To make it perfect, I'd like a couple more stops, as I like to take long, thorough walks, but the value is good as is.

This tour takes you all around Saint-malo which not only gives you historical context, but allows you to explore and see what Saint-malo has to offer as it leads you through the city. The self guided walking tour allows you to linger and explore areas that you find more interesting. It allows you to enjoy shopping, restaurants, and nature as you move throughout Saint-malo at your own pace. You can go back to the tour as often as you’d like and it is so easy to navigate. We went to the beach, learned about the forts, and then decided to stay and explore the tide pools and walk along the sand and play in the water. We wouldn’t have even known this area of the city was here and accessible! Another part took us through the cathedral which we learned about a historical figure as well as the fact that he was buried there! Having a guide allows you to not only see amazing things but actually KNOW what you’re seeing and why it’s significant! Highly recommend all tours but this one took the cake. Affordable, engaging, excellent in every way. I now love Saint-Malo and feel connected to its history and have an understanding of its culture, roots, and peoples.

Not bad, but the info you offer is a brief summary of what you could get online for each point to visit. While it's not expensive, I could have saved myself the money.
