During this amazing and unique tour, we will tour the Salt Mines at Maras, where you can see locals collecting salt from pools in the same way that the Incas did. Then we will hike down to the floor of the Sacred Valley using one of the original Inca trails that was used to transport the salt towards Machu Picchu. Our driver will pick us up and transport us to a local organic farm where we will take a tour, tasted local fruits and vegetables and cut alfalfa to feed the guinea pigs. Then we will go to Urubamba to visit a local non-touristic market and an incredible pottery workshop.

We will pick you up by private transport from your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley. From Cusco, it is a 90 minute drive over roads with beautiful views of the mountains and Sacred Valley and will arrive at the Salt mines at Maras. We will do a tour of the Salt mines and see different colors of pools that are used to evaporate salt that is in the water that is bubbling up from an underground spring. After having a chance to buy salt, we will hike down to the Sacred Valley floor for an easy 45-60 minute hike via a trail that was used by the Incas to transport salt to Machu Picchu. After crossing the Sacred Urubamba river, our car will be waiting for us to go to Yanahuara where we will visit and tour a local organic farm. Here we can taste local fruits and vegetables unique to Peru. We will learn about chicha and cut alfalfa to feed the guinea pigs. Then we will go to Urubamba to have lunch in a local restaurant and will then visit a local non-touristic market and have a tour where we will see locals selling fruits, flowers, vegetables and medicinal plants. Finally, we will visit the studio of the famous potter, Pablo Seminario before taking you back to your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley.

Valentín and his family were our guides for several days, including this day trip from Ollantaytambo to Cusco. They were so friendly, fun, prompt, helpful, I can’t say enough good about them and the experiences of their beautiful country. They went at our pace, spoke perfect English, and taught us a great deal about past and present life in the sacred valley.

This was my first International Yoga retreat with guided tour and it by far exceeded my expectations. I have returned home feeling rejuvenated! Valentine’s Pachamama Journeys served as our local guide for the full 10 day excursion to the Sacred Valley. Valentine, along with International Yoga, curated a wonderful assortment of activities, ranging from exploring Inca ruins (including Pisac, Ollantaytambo, and Machu Picchu) , hiking, visiting a family farm, meeting locals, learning about ancient traditions and art, and partaking in Andean cuisine. Valentine, his son Kenny, and the whole Pachamama staff were very knowledgeable, patient, and excellent care takers. I always felt safe and welcome and found myself laughing at Valentine’s humorous stories. Most importantly, I found Valentine to be truly inspirational. From his humble upbringing to his strong work ethic, he has built a remarkable tour company that gives back to the community, especially to building schools for pre-school age children of whom we had the pleasure to see their growth in action. I highly recommend Valentine’s Pachamama Journeys for any of your Peruvian experiences. You will be thrilled with this choice.

We had a fantastic visit week-long visit to Cusco and the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu organized by Valentin’s Pachamama Journeys. We were a single couple, and Valentin was our tour guide for the entire trip. He was excellent to be with every moment – felt like a rekindled old friendship and we were warmly received everywhere we went as we interacted with so many of his lifelong friends and associates. We looked forward to waking up each morning to encounter our next day’s adventure. Every single detail was so well thought out, planned and organized. They (his son Kenny was our driver) arrived at our hotel every morning at the designated time [actually early] and dropped us off each afternoon after a most exhilarating and information-filled day of exploration and a deep dive into the local culture and history. We learned so much about the history of the Incas and were invited in to meet Valentins family firsthand at their ancestral home for a most outstanding lunch prepared just for us on their farm. Pachamama Journeys selected great hotels, restaurants, and accommodations. Our visit to the Sacred Valley will be a lifelong memory and we are so grateful for the experience made possible by Valentin’s Pachamama Journeys.

Valentin is outstanding and he is great guide. He introduces you to a whole world of Peru and share his personal experiences. The lunch at the farm was the best, his knowledge of Peru is vast and you enjoy just being with him. He does the best job of giving a good spirit and good connection with the mother nature.

What an incredible day! Valentin is so kind, interesting, and professional. He picked us up at our hotel in Urubamba, and took us through the Sacred Valley - Chinchero, Moray, Maras, and OLLANTAYTAMBO. It was a wonderful route with amazing views. It was just the four of us - so a totally private tour. We learned so much about what we were seeing, and really got a feel for the communities and the history of the area. We had the best lunch of our trip at a restaurant on the square in Ollantaytambo. All the food is locally sourced and so delicious. We stopped at a women’s art collective in Chinchero, which was my favorite. It was absolutely lovely and the the whole tour was perfectly timed. There are so many tours to choose from. I have travelled around the world and seen many, many wonders. The people you see them with matter. This wonderful man is amazing and you should absolutely book with him. As an added bonus, he does a lot of community work by building and funding schools, advocating for porters, and supporting local businesses. This is conscious tourism at its best.

Altitude sickness and asthma add an extra challenge to the adventure of travel in Peru. Nevertheless, every carefully planned experience with Valentin and his team was awesome and I cannot overstate my gratitude for the depth of their kindness and compassion. Valentin is a remarkable person and offers exceptional and attentive service from start to finish.

Valentin was extremely personable and knowledgeable and elevated this experience from a typical tour to a historical journey. His knowledge of the Incan culture was impressive. His sense of humor was charming. The variety of activities was a perfect mix of culture and history. Would definitely recommend. His son Kenney is also a wonderful helper/guide.

We went to Salt Mines and it was something out of this world! Breathtaking colors, platforms, just magical atmosphere like we were on a different planet. Valentine and crew gave us fantastic tour and explained to us the whole process of extraction of the precious salt. At the end of the tour we could buy dark chocolate with salt and our group bought it all!!
