The Petrification Savannah, in French called "Savane des Pétrifications" is at the southernmost end of the peninsula of St. Anne. Your professional guide will enable you to discover this exceptional desert-like site!
The place owes its strange name to the fact that fossilised pieces of wood and even trees could once be admired there. In fact it is the oldest part of Martinique.
Not far from the Petrification Savannah, you can take a break to appreciate the charms of the beach at the Big Cove of Les Salines (Grande Anse des Salines - the most famous beach of Martinique), whose fine sand, coconut trees and turquoise sea delight sunbathers.

A perfect experience. Felix has met our expectations and adapted the route according to our requests and curiosities. Félix generously shares his knowledge and love of his island. Must to understand and know Martinique.

The bridge is poorly positioned on rocks that require a very sporty approach. Once there was a real walkway that was the whole width of the lookout but it was washed away by a storm. The “new” was misconceived of you.

Provide good shoes, cap and water bottle. Hiking to do preferably in the morning. It is a round trip. Go to the end of the route to discover a little piece of paradise

Beautiful hike from the parking lot located before the campsite. Easy level Made with 2 children (10 years and 5 years), remember to go with sneakers sunscreen and water. Some parts are shaded. Beautiful landscapes. Be careful the departure is made feet in the water: advice not to cross on the rocks they are slippery.

Park after the small restaurants of the salt beach (about 1km of path,,) or start the tent canvas camps. Take along the beach that will take you to the small point of the savannah. The view, turquoise water and wild beach are paradisiacal. The savannah with its arid landscape adorned with cacti is simply impressive. Contrast assured with the paradise beach that took us there. We arrived at 8:30 am were able to have lunch at Henry's and rest under the coconut trees on the salt beach. To do absolutely!

Hiking with 2 children aged 10 and 14. One of our best in Martinique. We parked in the L’Anse car park in Prune. Then for hiking it is well indicated. 4 km one way, without particular difficulty. 1h30 walk to Anse Trabaud. Disappointed with Trabaud cove because there was sargass. But nobody on the beach! Too bad the return is on the same path.

The Savannah of Petrifications takes its name from fossilized woods that could still be found there about forty years ago. Since then, they have been totally looted. The walk starts from the beach of Les Salines. It's worth a visit in this landscape by the sea, notched coves, no trees on the horizon. A very special feeling of desert course. Leave as soon as possible; provide sufficient water and a hat. Children can come provided they adjust to their rhythm. We sometimes meet fanatics who run in full sun, like the Foreign Legion. Ideally, push to Anse Braham, with a superb white sandy beach, totally secluded. Then taste the panorama from the Pointe d'enfer. Families can think about turning around; the others extend the famous Capes Road.

A fun hike to Martinique's dry savannah. Eric added many interesting nature facts, especially about the local plants. the birds were few and far between the morning we hiked.
The bridge in the photo? It's a bridge to nowhere - it's necessary to get over the deepest, fastest moving part of the channel, but you need to either hop across slippery rocks on either side of the bridge, or more simply and probably safer, simply wade through the water. Trail is well marked with small markers, and includes some descriptive signage. Good views of Diamond, the Atlantic and the Caribbean.
