According to Bradt Travel Guides, the Komani Lake journey is described as “one of the World’s greatest boat trips”. The tour to Koman Lake, Valbona and Theth is a special interest hiking tour program exclusively designed to offer participants the best combination of pristine wild nature, unforgettable ferry ride through the heart of the Albanian Alps, local folklore and traditions. During these three days you will be able to visit most of the attractions of Northern Albania, combining a variety of exciting outdoor activities with plenty of time to soak up the local culture.

This tour requires some hiking experience and good physical condition.
Valbona Pass: elevation up to 1050m, hiking 6 to 8 hours.
Grunas Waterfall with an elevation up to 270m, hiking 1 hour one way.
Mule or horse caravan, to carry heavy luggage from Valbona to Theth, is available on request with an extra charge of 90 Euros per horse/mule.
Please note that prices are calculated on double/twin/triple/quadruple room occupancy, in traditional guesthouses
The company reserves the right to run this tour under the same conditions with the inverse itinerary.

Our journey towards the Albanian Alps begins at 06:00 am in the morning. Our tour leader will come and pick you up at your hotel in Tirana or Shkoder. As we drive along the way towards Northern Albania, you will be amazed by beautiful landscapes; wild fields, rivers, Shkodra Lake and rugged untouched mountains.

Theth
As we take the turn from the main road to Theth the area becomes more rural, with fewer cars but more wild nature and amazing landscapes. Due to its favorable position this area is famous for cultivating medicinal herbs, and if you are lucky to travel in May – June you would be amazed by the pretty and aromatic fields of lavender, making you feel like you are in Provence (France).
On the way to the top, we will pass through a steep sneaky hillside reaching up to 1700 meters above sea level at Qafa e Thores. They say this is the spot with the best picture – perfect view of the Albanian Alps
Blue Eye of Theth
We will have a short break for refreshment and start our hiking journey towards the Blue Eye at around mid-day. Blue Eye was formed by the erosion of the water from the melting snow of the Albanian Alps. The hike from the village is about 3 hours one way, with a hiking distance of 18 km both ways and about 700 m of elevation. (If you choose to book local transportation from Theth Village to Nderlysaj, the hike will take around 1 hour each way. The cost for local transportation is between 5-7 euros per person) This trail is considered easy to moderate, requiring some experience in hiking. You will not be able to take your eyes off this stunning scene of nature with its bright blue and green colours, it’s like being inside a postcard. Also, fun fact, the temperature of the Blue Eye is just around 5 degrees Celsius. Theth National Park
We will go back to the village center and visit the Old Church and the “Lock in” Tower (symbol of Theth). The stories behind these buildings take up centuries full of history. Overnight in a Traditional Guest House in Theth

Valbona - Teth - Hiking Trail
Get ready for the highlight of this trip. Trekking from Theth to Valbona will be an intense day as the walk takes about 6 to 8 hours (about 1050m elevation) in a remote terrain, nevertheless unquestionably worthy! The Valbona pass offers a spectacular view of the Peaks of the Balkans and “Accursed Mountains”. When reaching the top of the Valbona Pass, you will experience a serious shot of adrenaline. From here you will be able to see at both sides of the valleys. This top viewpoint is perfect for a short break and the possibility to capture amazing pictures of the Albanian Alps. From Valbona Pass we will star our decent to the next destination, Valbona Valley, another picturesque village surrounded by high mountains. After reaching the village, we will walk towards the traditional guesthouse. *You will be carrying all your belongings with you during this trek so we recommend you pack lightly.

Komani Lake By Wild Tour Albania
Waking up with such a magnificent view of the Albanian Alps will make you want to stay longer, however, we will get on a boat that will take us through Komani Lake offering spectacular views of the Albanian Alps, waterfalls, rural villages and wild forests. It is considered by many as an exotic experience combined with the unmatched hospitality of the locals.

Once arriving in the Komani dam we will experience local transport over bumpy roads, however offering spectacular views of Vau i Dejes Lake.
Tirana
From here our driver will take us back to the modern and dynamic city of Shkoder or Tirana after an unforgettable experience. You will return home full of the wonders of Albania, with a new sense of self-excitement to share with those around you.

5.00Can't recommend this tour enough. Had an absolutely fantastic experience: the hike over the Valbona pass is incredibly rewarding, and waking up each morning in idyllic landscapes is a real highlight. The friendliness and hospitality at each stay was wonderful, and our guide, Parid, was brilliant - knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and (most importantly) patient. Ask him to share some Albanian jokes with you - they won't disappoint!
The views were mesmerizing and the hike, although challening on the second day, was definitely worth it!

5.00Our guide Albi was perfect! He was very informative, entertaining and attentive to different needs of the group. We had a great time in Theth and Valbona, and it felt as if we were on a group trip together.
Highly recommend - a must do trip, if you have time to explore the North!

5.00My wife and I went on a small group tour (5 people, plus guide) and had a great time! We would definitely recommend. This trip is enough time to experience the sheer scale and beauty of Albania's Accursed Mountains, and gives you views of the country you won't get anywhere else. The group was mixed hiking ability but our knowledgeable guide (Albi) made sure that no one was left behind. The trails can be quite steep, so pack light as you take bags with you. Albi brought good energy and a unique perspective, telling us stories of Albania's recent and historic past. He ensured everyone was looked after, introduced us to local produce and even threw in some cool extra stops. The main Choose Balkans team was very helpful, clear and responsive!

5.00We had an amazing three days! It was a beautiful trip and Ervin was an excellent guide.. it was very nice to have somebody who is so passionate about the Alps and Albania! The views were stunning and the guesthouses were more than we could wish for! It was very hot, but because of the shade, the altitude and the fresh water springs the trip was the best place to be in very hot Albania! Would recommend!! Thank you Choose Balkans and a special thank you for Ervin!

5.00We felt very comfortable. Since only one other person would have been with our tour group, who unfortunately had to cancel due to a broken toe, me and my mother got a private tour. Our guide was very competent and ambitious. In addition to excellent support, he has accompanied our tour with many entertaining anecdotes about the surroundings, the culture and much more. Also the tips for further stay in Albania helpful. After the ferry we unfortunately had to wait 1.5 hours for the onward journey back to Tirana, as we still had to wait for more guests on another tour. Arrival in Tirana was therefore very late and the car rental pick-up timeframe and check-in timeframe for the subsequently booked accommodation could not be met. The agency has taken away any uncertainty along the way by contacting both the car rental company and the property and informing them of our delay. We were very late but it was no problem. We are very satisfied with the Service.

5.00The Valbona pass is truly spectacular, a very rewarding hike, in fact all the hiking in this region is spectacular. Redon was a wonderful guide, very knowledgeable and fun to hang out with. A really well organised tour, everything was taken care of, so you can just enjoy the amazing nature!
