This immersive theatrical experience takes Shakespeare's work life back to its roots. Led by professional actor guide, meet Tallow Chandlers Hall, tview the world renowned Globe theatre, across the river from the north bank, then trace the Globe's history backwards to it's birthplace, Shoreditch, via key locations in Elizabethan Renaissance Theatre. A player guide will recount the history of the first British Playhouses, and perform suitable Shakespearian speeches at key points. Packed with history, literature, theatricality, comedy, tragedy, fact, fiction and drama, including modern sights and sounds, cultural references, superb street art in Shoreditch, an exciting cut through the Barbican estate, crossing boundaries on the way, approx 2 hours walking (depending on pace) including a 20 min interval at the Barbican Arts Centre, home of The Royal Shakespeare Company, ending at New Inn Yard, Shoreditch. Group option and Private option available (Cakes and Ale). Suitability age 16+.

Private tour : This is a private tour. The traveller is not joining a wider group but will take the tour solo, or with their booked group.

Dee, our guide, was knowledgeable with a clear love of the Shakespeare and theatre. We loved the way she wove quotes from the plays into the tour. As two Londoners who are interested in history, we discovered some new information and places. Highly recommend!

It was an amazing experience walking through the streets of London unlocking history and enjoying site seeing. Learn so much about Shakespearian time and first theatre in London. Highly recommend 👍

This was a great experience--Darrie did a wonderful job bringing my family and me on an informative and entertaining journey into the world of Shakespeare and his theaters, with a scholar's knowledge and an actor's sensibility. She was also kind enough to accommodate us even during a weekday, and even though the tour isn't typically designed for an eight year old, she was willing to bring my son along for the ride. This tour involves a LOT of rapid walking--my shoes and leg muscles had plenty of wear and tear the next day!--but so long as you're prepared for that, you'll have a wonderful time on this tour. Highly recommended!

D was engaging, entertaining and led a really fun tour through bits of London I never would have known to visit otherwise. We left with fascinating new knowledge of Shakespeare and his world, and also a list a places we want to revisit. Can’t recommend highly enough!
