Booking the Shanghai Flavours & Culture Tour with our friend group was easily one of the best parts of our trip. Within minutes we were standing on the street eating soup dumplings and laughing over who nearly burned their tongue first. Walking through People's Park while locals were out doing their morning routines made the whole experience feel real and grounded, not touristy. Our guide, Sophia, made everything flow effortlessly. She was warm, knowledgeable, and never scripted and more like a local friend showing us her favorite breakfast spots. With Monster Day Tours handling all the logistics, we skipped the usual confusion at busy stalls and even snagged seats at places we never could’ve managed alone, including Dexingguan. What I loved most was how natural it all felt, weaving through backstreets, sharing scallion pancakes straight from the griddle, and comparing our favorite bites as we went. By the end, we weren’t just full; we felt genuinely connected to the city. For a trip with friends, it was the perfect mix of fun, flavor, and authenticity.

The tour was a memorable experience for us as a couple. It felt like we were discovering a hidden side of Singapore through the lens of authentic Shanghai cuisine. We loved how the tour blended incredible flavours with cultural storytelling where every dish had a history, and every stop had its own unique atmosphere. Our guide, Sophia, made the morning feel effortless and personal. She navigated the busy spots with ease, shared stories that brought the heritage behind the food to life, and made us feel completely at home. It didn’t feel like a standard food tour, it felt like being shown around by a knowledgeable friend who genuinely loves what she does. The pacing was perfect for us as a couple, relaxed enough to enjoy each bite and conversation, yet packed with variety. Highly recommend this experience for anyone wanting more than just a meal as it’s a true cultural journey.

The Shanghai Flavours & Culture MDT is an experience simply shouldn’t be missed. Rather than being ushered mechanically from one stop to the next, I was immersed in the vibrant rhythm of Shanghai’s morning life. From the excitement of snagging the legendary egg crepe at a buzzing street stall to wandering hidden lanes with warm pancake in hand, every moment felt special. Each stop peeled back another layer of the city: the famous line at the International Hotel, the peaceful everyday scenes in the park, and the energetic, meat-lover’s haven of Zhejiang Road. The whole experience felt authentic and delightfully unpolished. Our guide, Alice, felt less like a tour leader and more like a well-connected local, sharing Shanghai’s best-kept culinary secrets. This tour offers genuine, unscripted delight and a true sense of the city’s heartbeat—an essential experience for inquisitive travelers.

As a fellow Asian traveler, this tour offered a profound depth. I appreciated the reverence for heritage, like the century-old recipes at Xinghualou, alongside the vibrant street energy. It wasn't just about taste, but about understanding the “why” behind each dish and its place in local life. The respect for food craft and history was deeply resonant. A insightful journey into the heart of Shanghai's culinary culture.

What set this tour apart was its profound human element. It was a story told through the hands of Shanghai's people: the dedicated crepe vendor, the baker crafting Butterfly Cookies, the Halal butcher, and the dim sum chef at a century-old restaurant. We didn't just eat; we witnessed a community's morning unfold. Sitting in local joints, sharing tables and stories, we felt an authentic connection. The walk through People's Park and past the History Museum contextualized the food within the city's social tapestry. This tour by Monster Day Tours doesn't just showcase food; it honors the everyday people who are the true keepers of Shanghai's culinary soul. It was moving, delicious, and deeply educational.

I recently took this food tour and it was absolutely fantastic. The tour featured 10 different stations, each showcasing a unique type of Shanghai cuisine. We ate outdoors, in casual local spots, and even in some wonderful restaurants—all culminating in a great variety of desserts to close the experience. What made this tour truly special was our guide, Jane. She didn't just present the food; she shared the stories behind each dish, giving me a completely new perspective on Shanghainese cuisine. Through her insights, I learned not only about the flavors but also about how locals enjoy food in their work and everyday lives. The walking and street eating were perfectly interspersed with fascinating stories about the city's history. I highly recommend this tour to first-time visitors and foreigners looking for authentic flavors. A couple of tips: don't eat beforehand—come hungry!—and keep an open mind. You'll leave with a full stomach and a deeper appreciation for Shanghai.

This was such a rich and wonderful experience! We got to try the famous egg crepes from a hidden lane that always has a huge queue—but Monster Day Tours had it all arranged, so we didn’t have to wait at all. We also enjoyed delicious local shengjianbao and soy milk. After a satisfying meal, a relaxing walk through People’s Park was just perfect—I really loved feeling like part of the local life. The lamb skewers on the street were so much fun, and we also tasted century-old local favorites like salad and spring rolls. The dessert at the end was a pleasant surprise and showed me just how creative Chinese food culture can be. The whole morning was relaxed and joyful walking with Jane, and I met new friends who share my love for food. If you're interested in Chinese culture, don't miss Monster Day Tours' Breakfast Tour!

This was the best tour experience I've ever had! It wasn't just about the amazing food and sights along the way—our guide Jane also shared so many fascinating stories about Shanghai. I made new friends, and we laughed and chatted throughout the night. From Shanghai street snacks to Sichuan cuisine, and of course the soup dumplings and dessert, every bite gave me a true taste of Chinese food culture and local hospitality. Huge thanks to Monster Day Tours for giving me such an incredible experience on my first trip to China. Highly recommended!

This breakfast adventure felt less like a tour and more like being dropped into the heart of Shanghai’s morning energy. With warm pancakes in hand, we ducked through backstreets, chased down legendary egg crepes from a buzzing stall, and moved through the city as it came alive around us. Each stop uncovered a different side of the city — the famous queue outside the International Hotel, pockets of quiet community life in the park, and the lively, meat-lover’s stretch along Zhejiang Road. Nothing felt staged or rushed; it was spontaneous, immersive, and wonderfully real. Our guide Alice felt like a plugged-in local friend, sharing food spots and stories you’d never find on your own. The Monster Day Tours breakfast adventure delivers pure, unscripted joy and a genuine connection to Shanghai’s pulse. A must-do for anyone who loves exploring a city through its food and streets.
