Come along on a unique tour that explores the often-overlooked Afro-Argentine history and culture, led by members of the local community. You'll discover the African roots woven into the fabric of Buenos Aires' buildings, stories, and even tango. Our tour of the historic neighborhood of San Telmo, uncovering the rich legacy of Afro-Argentines from pre-colonial times to the modern-day activism reshaping the country's relationship to race.
On this walking tour, we'll explore the old slave trading quarters and housing, as well as San Telmo Church, Dorrego Square, minimal house, and tenements. Along the way, you'll learn about the history of the Afro-Argentines, as well as the process of invisibilization of Black heritage and the activism that fights for an anti-racist Argentina.
We use the profits from our Black Heritage department to promote affordable tours for locals, sponsor free tours for kids and highlight the contributions of our Black community.

We will start at the Maria Remedios del Valle Monument, where we will introduce this historical figuere of the Independence Wars and also the introduction to our tour.
San Telmo
We will make a stop in a traditional place in the heart of the colonial neighborhood of San Telmo. Here we'll have a drink and talk about Africa before colonization, as well as the daily lives of the people who worked in the house.

5.00I had an absolutely phenomenal experience on the Afro-Argentinian Walking Tour in Buenos Aires this past week. My guide, Nicholas, was outstanding—knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about the subject. I ended up being the only participant, which turned the tour into a highly personalized, one-on-one experience that made it even more special. Nicholas provided deep insight into the often-overlooked history of Black people in Argentina and their significant contributions to the country’s culture and society. He also offered thoughtful perspective on the current political and social climate for Afro-Argentinians today. Be prepared—there’s a lot of walking (about 3–4 hours across the city), but it’s absolutely worth it! 5-star experience all the way. Highly recommend!

5.00Kimberly was an incredible guide! She was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Argentina, not only as it related to Afro-Argentinian heritage, but also the country as a whole. She was very generous with information about Buenos Aires, Argentina, and neighboring countries. Kimberly was so accommodating to my partner and I, addressing all of our questions and having engaging conversations about various topics that came up in relation to the tour. We learned so much about Argentinian history! She had a great, contagious energy that made learning very enjoyable. Although sometimes the information was disheartening, Kimberly consistently made the tour lively and upbeat. Thank you Kimberly!

5.00Amazing and eye-opening tour! I learned so much about the often overlooked history of Afro-Argentines and their impact on Argentina. The guide (Ekene) was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, sharing stories and historical context that you rarely hear elsewhere. It really changed the way I see Buenos Aires and its history. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a deeper and more inclusive understanding of Argentina.

5.00Eye opening tour with Karl. They did an amazing job of tying the complicated history of Argentina to the unseen history of black people in Argentina. They explained the erasure and desire to be noticed within the population. We appreciated their attention to detail and historical tie backs. A must do if you’re a history person and want to understand the Afro-Argentinian culture

5.00This is one of the best experiences I had while visiting Argentina. As a fellow Black person (American) it's always interesting to see how other countries try to erase the history of black and brown people. Karl did an excellent job on the tour. Kudos to the entire Lunfarda team for keeping black history alive in Argentina 🇦🇷

5.00It was a great tour and I highly recommend it to everyone. Ekene was a super insightful guide who shared her broad knowledge of Afro-Argentine history. She was welcoming questions from the group and shared some of her own stories/experiences. It is worth adding that she was very attentive to the group's needs - it is especially important given how busy San Telmo is. I regret not doing other tours with Lunfarda Travel and next time I'm in Buenos Aires I'll definitely book a tour with them.
