Napier Art Deco Buildings
Deco City Discoverer 3 hour tour departs from two locations depending on the Ship arrival. We will message you on Viator a pick up Location and Time. Pick up from your ship or the Napier i-Site information Centre beside your shuttle bus stop. We travel Napier City pointing out all the points of interest. along the coast to our first visit the Waitangi Regional Park. located on the beach over looking Hawke Bay. We then head inland through the rural area of Meeanee and out to the Silky Oak Chocolate Company nestled in among the Orchards. On to Taradale, past the unique Art Deco McDonalds. Ahuriri the original Port of Napier with a photo stop at the beautiful Art Deco building of the former National Tobacco Building. Up Napier hill for fantastic views all over Napier City and the wider Hawkes Bay area. Into the heart of our city where we pass many of our beautiful Art Deco buildings. It is our pleasure to show you around our unique beautiful City. Thanks for joining us.

3.00We recently took a tour in Napier and was quite disappointed. The tour seemed poorly planned: the chocolate shop was closed, and we couldn’t enjoy a wine tasting because it wasn’t booked in advance. Additionally, it was hard to hear the commentary, as only the front row could hear clearly, and we often had to ask for repeats. The focus was mainly on the 1931 earthquake, with little information about other aspects of the area. Overall, it was a letdown.

1.00My friend Élaine Renaud has often taken excursions with you and has always been satisfied. She recommended we do business with you. For the first time we were extremely disappointed. It was an interest-free visit. We passed through the streets of the city, saw fields, an industrial area, the port and residential areas where we saw two Art Deco houses from the outside. The guide gave us explanations only about the buildings that survived the earthquake and the effects of the 2023 cyclone. So, we took an interestless bus tour for three hours. 5.00We had a great site seeing tour today with Mark . Being local of many years Mark new all the best spots and gave excellent commentary along the way. He has grown up in the area and had lots of interesting stories. It was excellent value for money. Plus Mark was very accommodating with our arrival time and flexibility on this day. Thanks Mark.

3.00Very disappointing as the coach couldn’t stop at the designated places because of lack of parking. The coach was not comfortable as the smell of diesel was very strong. The commentary needed to improve.

2.00Hi, we did our tour with you guys on Monday 10th March, we were a group of 4 adults. I must say I was very disappointed, when we booked and when you read your advertisement "Tour the Art Deco city in an Art Deco bus, with large windows and a viewing deck at the back where you can get great photos". However our tour was in a large van, we asked why and were told that all the busses were tied up with doing the cruise shuttle buses. This was one of the main reasons we picked your tour as my husband can't sit comfortably for very long and we thought with the viewing section at the back he could stand when ever he needed too, besides the fact that there would have been more room on the bus and better photos, from the open viewing area instead of through the van windows. No where on your website or on Trip adviser does it say that could be in a Van. Under your What to expect section, you mention "We then head back to the edge of Napier into the suburb of Taradale, past Art Deco McDonalds and out to the very grand old Mission Estate winery the oldest winery in New Zealand established in 1851. Enjoy a walk around this historic site, or a sample of their fine wines (Tasting fees apply) and take in the views over the city from their beautiful garden lookout". whilst on the tour I believe the driver was Devon, she told us that they usually just drive past, but she said "we will go in and I will go and see if we can get off the bus and have a look around". The driver parked in the disabled parking and went inside, when she came out she said" she couldn't find anyone to ask, so you might as well just go on in and have a look. Nothing was mentioned that we could do wine tasting as your advertisement states. She made out like she was doing us a favour by stopping there, when it is on the itinerary, and she shouldn't have had to ask permission, it should have been all organised ahead of our arrival. They had trouble with the speaker and those in the back couldn't hear half of the commentary and the air conditioner in the back didn't work very well as it was quite hot. Considering it cost us each $129 + dollars we certainly didn't feel like we had value for money, I also asked how long the trip was as the advertisement states Duration 3hrs, then further down the page it says 2hrs. We were told it would be 3hrs, however it was 2 and half hrs.

5.00Our driver Mark met us downtown (we came off a cruise ship) right on time. We had the tour to ourselves, nice big roomy vehicle and Mark was a font of information about the Māori and their lifestyle. He followed up with details of the earthquake which levelled the town and the Art Deco rebuild which followed, transforming the town. A very enjoyable and informative tour.

5.00Excellent small group tour Knowledgeable local guide and driver. Good length of tour with option of free time at the end. Very handy pickup right from the ship.
