You don’t need to be a certified diver in order to experience water at its clearest! Snorkeling at Silfra is suitable for anyone who feels comfortable in water and knows how to swim. This family-friendly activity is suitable for children from 12 years old.
The snorkeling tour of Silfra is done in a dry suit, helping you to stay warm and dry inside the suit while swimming in the cold, crystal clear water.
Silfra is located in Thingvellir National Park which is a Unesco heritage site. The beautiful park is one of the wonders on the famous Golden circle route.

IMPORTANT - Participants who are 60 years of age and older must have their doctor sign the approval form in order to participate
All participant's height, weight and age information must be provided to local operator to ensure they bring the best fitting drysuit. The tour operator will contact you after booking to ask for this information.
All participants will need to fill out a medical form before participating in the tour. The form can be filled out online
Drysuits are worn over your own clothing. We recommend wearing long thermal underwear and thick wool socks as a base layer under the dry suit
Minimum height is 4ft 11in (150cm). Minimum weight is 100lbs (45kg).
Maximum height and weight is 6ft7in (200cm) and 264lbs (120kg).
Participants must be comfortable in water and able to swim, physically fit and healthy
Please note that that dry suits can sometimes feel quite tight and constricting
All participants must be able to communicate in English
Not suitable for pregnant women
All participants must be at least 12 years old

Upon arrival 15 minutes before the start time, you will check in with the guides at the meeting point at Silfra. Once your group of max 6 people has been formed, your guide will give you your drysuit, warm undersuit and snorkeling equipment. Your guide will explain how to use this equipment and how to ensure that you will be warm and comfortable during your tour. You can change in our heated Changing Van and the guide will help you with putting all the gear on. We recommend wearing long underwear and thick socks. Your guide will brief you on Silfra and safety as well as information about Thingvellir national park, the tectonic plates and the continents. The briefing and gearing up takes approx 1 hour. You will walk 5 minutes to Silfra and start your 30 - 45 minute snorkeling tour of Silfra Hall, Silfra Cathedral, and Silfra Lagoon. After snorkeling in the cold water, we warm you up with hot cocoa and cookies. This is your chance to chat with your guide, ask any questions you might have and take a look at the pics taken during the tour. 5.00We enjoyed this activity immensely. The snorkelling experience was just as described- beautiful clear water with plenty of time to enjoy it. We had 2 very helpful guides, Hana and Abolini. They gave clear instructions and were very accommodating. We would highly recommend this.

5.00We had a great time. Our snorkel guide Filip was fantastic, explained direction's well and was funny. I've snorkeled 30+ times all over the world, this was a very unique experience!!! Don't pass it up.

5.00I loved this experience! The instructors were amazing and made us feel safe the whole experience. It was really cool to get to do this and I thought that it was well worth the money for the experience. Instructions were clear for meet up/throughout the excursion. Pro tip: wear thing base layers underneath clothes so the wetsuit can go over and you can stay warm. Pictures were taken by the instructor if you wanted some for extra cost but I was able to bring my Gopro and take some of my own! Would recommend!!

5.00What an amazing experience! I was terrified it was going to be so cold and miserable. I was wrong. It WAS cold but not nearly as cold as I thought it would be. Diogo was a great guide and truly saved me when I struggled towards the end.

5.00We did the tour with Carol, and she was a wonderful guide who made sure everyone felt safe and that the experience was great. There were six people in our group, and we were in the water for around an hour. In total, including putting the gear on and off and enjoying hot chocolate afterward, it took around two hours. The water was super clear and beautiful. We even got very lucky and saw a fish in the water. We also received some great photos taken while we were snorkeling. I highly recommend the Silfra snorkeling experience.
