The guides were very knowledgable and we were lucky to have a mostly clear night. The site is not at Mount John Summit, however you still see the same stars and planets!

The staff tried to provide clear and informed experience but the sky wasn’t that clear. They refunded 75% of the fee but still their enthusiasm carried the day. Congratulations to Kira and Jacob.

Absolutely amazing! Photos don’t do this justice, you have to see it to appreciate it. Shout out to Jacob for smashing our tour on his first 6 weeks in the job, very informative and approachable with questions.

The tour was very friendly and managed groups very well; our guide Jacob was terrific and happy to answer many questions. The rain thankfully cleared up and we had a wonderful tour.

The stargazing was amazing. The guide’s explanation of our galaxy with a mix of Māori culture and tracing the southern cross from the flag of NZ was fantastic. Warm jackets were provided on the way up there too as the night we joined was quite cold although it’s summer.

Our experience with Silver River Stargazing at Lake Tekapo was amazing. The team at Silver River were friendly and professional. Some of the stargazing experiences are late in the evening around midnight. I had misunderstood the booking date, But it was no trouble for the Silver River team to adjust our booking, The stargazing trip was led by an entertaining and informative guide. We enjoyed the experience. Being in the quiet and dark under the stars was amazing. Some tips: - check the date on your booking if the trip time is past 12 midnight - check messages from the Silver River team often in email although they did phone us - be patient with the weather, some did not diminish our experience

Well organized. With 30 people but on location in 3 groups of 10 tourists divided with their own guide who explained and also had their own telescope available. Explanation of the different stars and groups of stars. Being able to see with the naked eye and also through the telescope. And finally a personal photo with the starry sky in the background that we could download the next day. Those who wanted were given a warm coat to put on extra. It is useful to bring your own gloves if necessary because it is cold on location. Because clouds were forecast for us, we received an email a few hours beforehand saying that we would be notified at least 1 hour in advance if it did not happen.

I’ve done a few star gazing tours in different countries and this is the best!! My mother who is 80+ age really enjoyed the whole experience. Highly recommended.

This dark sky adventure must be done. Our host was excellent - knowledgeable and keen to answer questions. The views of the southern skies were incredible. There are other trips with bigger telescopes and larger groups. The group size was limited to eight which meant you didnt have to wait long to look through the telescope, and it was very relaxed.
