Your host is a friendly Singapore Chinese Peranakan with a strong passion to share real life experiences about growing up in Singapore since the 70's. He’s also licensed by the Tourism Board and an academic historian.
His in-depth experience of the different ethnic neighbourhoods and hawker markets promises an adventure of discovery the vibrancy of the local streets and street food now run by 2nd or 3rd generation family members, the people and the diverse communities. You will be introduced to a wide variety of locally popular street food favourites and get to know better your host and the country through his eyes and life's experiences.
This fun and engaging Mixed Group adventure is for those who want to experience unique traditional street food in the UNESCO inscribed hawker centres located in the ethnic neighbourhoods of Chinatown & Little India. This unique culture has been deeply embedded in the Singapore way of life since the colonial days of early 19th century until today.

Chinatown
The experience starts off with an exploration of Chinatown where you will get to soak in the sights of the Chinatown neighbourhood. Stories will be shared of it's history capturing the struggles of early Chinese immigrants, their trials and tribulations of making ends meet in a rough neighbourhood filled with vices like opium, gambling, prostitution, and death. These buildings still stand today. Old images will be shown where you will see the quick transformation of Singapore's development from the past to the present day. We will also be visiting a hawker centre and get to sample locally popular Singapore Chinese street food cuisines, and at the same time experience the local way of life that has been around for the past decades.
Little India
In Little India, you will be brought around the area where the vibrancy of colour from street stalls selling fresh fruit & vegetables, flower garland markets, traditional clothing stores, and incense shops will charm your senses. It is due to these trades and other opportunities that had inspired the early Indian community to move from the original Little India near the old seafront, up here where water buffalos used to roam the swampy area. We will be visiting a hawker market here and get to sample a variety of Pakistani, North Indian & Indian Muslim street food cuisines, and experience the exciting vibrancy of the Indian community having their daily meals here.

5.00From initial communication to good-byes, this tour was a perfect way to experience Singapore and it's wonderful sights, sounds and foods. Starting at the Chinatown Hawker's Center, the food and drink flowed all day, as did the conversation among the group of new friends. Gerry is a fantastic guide. Don't hesitate to book this tour.

5.00What a great way to see all the different cultures in Singapore in such a short time . We had the best tour guide Gerry he was a wealth of knowledge of Singapore’s history so interesting to listen to. The food was awesome! We were so full in the end!

5.00We had an amazing time on this tour and highly recommend it. Our guide, Gerry, was outstanding. He communicated with us before the tour, which immediately gave us peace of mind, and once we met him, it was clear we were in great hands. It was a small group (only 7 of us), which made the experience feel very personal. Gerry took the time to learn everyone’s names and was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. As a local who does these tours regularly, he seemed to know everyone and had great insight into each neighborhood. The food was a huge highlight. In Chinatown, we were able to sit and try a variety of dishes from the hawker center without worrying about ordering or paying, since everything was included. We also loved that any leftover food was given to locals in need. The Little India portion was just as great, with delicious dishes at a restaurant and seamless transportation. Gerry even had metro cards ready for us, which made everything so easy. He also shared history along the way, including photos of how the areas used to look, which added a lot of depth to the experience. We ended in the Arabic Quarter with dessert (also included in the tour), and he made sure everyone got back safely. My entire family loved this tour, and my husband even said it was the highlight of our Singapore trip. If you’re considering this tour, book it. You won’t regret it.

5.00This is your sign to book this trip! I was looking for a food tour and was drawn to this one because you get to visit three culturally different areas of Singapore. I've been on several food tours around the world and I can confidently say that THIS tour with Gerry is the best one I have been on. The food experience. On other tours, I am used to taking several stops and having a bite or two at each location. Gerry's tour is more like meeting with a good friend. When you got to a new area, you sit grab a table, and Gerry buys SEVERAL plates of food and grabs you any drink you'd like to try! So you're sharing family style and enjoying incredible conversation with Gerry and your fellow travelers. Even when we are stuffed and we have left overs, nothing goes wasted. Gerry makes sure to always share our food with others. Cultural experience. This way more than just a food tour. Gerry takes you through each area, and truly teaches you about the history of each area. He carries a large ipad loaded with pictures and information about the location and how each story builds the unique history of Singapore. He is truly brilliant. He allows for enough time for you to take it in, but we move quickly enough so you never lose interest!! He even teaches you be more comfortable travelling using the train and busses! Gerry, the man himself. He was the most thoughtful guide I have ever travelled with. At every hawker center, he made sure to get us a table with fans, he wipes down every table so we are always comfortable. It was raining on and off and the whole time he tracked the weather/clouds so that he can map and adjust our journey as needed so we can avoid getting wet. I bet he is just as thoughtful when its super hot! Leading up to meeting, he shared specific directions and information so you feel welcomed and know exactly where to meet and how to find him. He even shared ALL the details of the food we ate afterwards. You know he is a gem of a human when we walk around and he's saying hello to every single auntie, uncle and all the hard working folks of each community. I can't express my gratitude enough. I learned so much about Singapore during this trip thanks to Gerry. He made my trip to Singapore incredibly memorable. Please book this trip, you won't regret it!

5.00Gerry, our guide was brilliant. So organised, informative & knowledgable on all aspects ... food, culture, history ... and so entertaining. He covered so much and was so generous and cobsiderate of each member of the group's needs. He brought us all together and shared so much of himself. We all walked away feeling we had made new connections and friends. We experienced some amazing food, met the locals and learned much about life in Singapore. We would highly recommend this tour and in particular, ask for Gerry ... he's a gem!!!

5.00Make sure you come to this hungry! Gerry was simply amazing - knowledgable and fun and friendly. Given the high heat and humidity in Singapore, he kept walking to a minimum with plenty of stops. As for the food - so much and such variety. A fabulous tour and would highly recommend it. Thanks Gerry!
