Schloss Ambras Innsbruck
Explore the wonderful world of the Renaissance and visit Castle Ambras (Schloss Ambras) in Innsbruck. Situated in the hills above Innsbruck and visible from afar, the castle is one of the provincial city's most popular attractions. Be amazed by the impressive jousting armor suits in the Armory Cabinets (Rüstkammer), glance at the artifacts in the Chamber of Art and Curiosities and see the bathing facilities used by Philippine Welser, which will give you an idea of the 'spa culture' in the 16th century. Admire the stunning Spanish Hall, one of the most beautiful Renaissance halls of its kind in the world, and see the famous Habsburg portrait gallery. Habsburg Archduke Ferdinand II ordered the redesign of the original fortress for his wife Philippine as well as the construction of another building to accommodate his valuable collections.

Ambras Castle in Innsbruck not to be missed and, in my opinion the most interesting visit than Innsbruck offers. Full ticket 18€ and up to 19 years free with audio guide highly recommended to immerse yourself in the history and magnificent collection of Archduke Ferdinand II who donated Castle and land to his wife Philippine Welser in order to guarantee him for life the status, since the morganatic marriage was secret precisely because she did not have noble rank. The ticket office with very kind staff who offered explanations also in excellent Italian from also the opportunity to buy souvenirs for souvenirs. The spectacular gardens with royal peacocks that run undisturbed in a fairytale setting. 💕

Much diversity in Castle’s exhibits. English explanations/details abundant. Intriguing Room of Curiosities and armour/jousting explanations. Spanish Hall beautiful (guest violinist practicing with local classical music orchestra when I visited… wonderful). 12-15 minute ride from Markt-Platz on bus M (free using city tourist card I got from my hostel).

Beautiful castle full of history and whose Renaissance style is flamboyant. First museum in the world (according to them...) following the passion of the owner for collections. And indeed they are beautiful and very interesting. We had a great time there. Suitable for both young and old. Recommended. If you take the tickets on the net you will have a discount and be careful there are not many places to park your car in case of crowds. Privilege the bus that stops in front.

The medieval armor for horses and humans was AMAZING! The renaissance hall and the other museum collections here were also well worth the visit. This museum was much better than I expected, truely a high quality museum and I’m so glad we made the visit.

The place is beautiful, with its gardens. It is a place where you can meet with friends to settle quietly during the day. Parking is 8 euros a day, and admission is not too expensive either. It is easy to spend two hours in the various buildings of the castle, with interesting and fascinating objects, including on knights and jousting. This is a must-see place in town, and the staff is very friendly. Some even speak French.

Beautiful castle with incredible collection of weapons and armor. The “ Wonder Room” was very varied and contained a wealth of beautiful unique curiosities.

You can get here in less than 20 minutes by bus. The castle consists of two parts: below there is a very impressive exhibition not only with armour, but also many of what has come to Austria through cultural contacts from other corners of the world. In the upper part, two floors are closed for renovation. Here are interesting examples of home decor, such as the bathroom and the stateroom. Nice park!

Ample parking space. On arrival it is not very clear where to start. Inside it is freezing but really freezing cold. Even with winter coat. Wherever you walk in, you are followed by staff and they are watching you extremely closely. Interesting slot but not worth 5 stars.

One of the coolest things you'll see in Tyrol. The exhibit ranges from methodical collection of knightly armor to an absolutely eclectic gathering of "all that's cool" circa 1600s. The collection is fifficult to describe. Think of if it this way: it's 17th century and you have to make a gift for a man that literally has everything; what would it be? You really want to know? (Go and find out.)
