This experience is not a full day trip. Took an hour and a half to travel from Port Douglas with many pick ups. The gold class train was good value but the time in Kuranda could’ve been 1 to 2 hours shorter. Ended up catching an Uber back to Port Douglas.

Absolutely brilliant tour (even if you're scared of heights!) Our tour bus driver from Port Douglas was great, good commentary with a bit of humor thrown in. The train ride up was spectacular, Well worth getting the gold class upgrade (comfy seats, snacks and drinks) Kuranda was bigger then we were expecting, lots of choices for food and snacks. The views from the Skyrail back down... phenomenal once you get past being up so high. A great day out!

Loved the Kuranda Rail trip. Relaxing, informative! See the beautiful waterfalls, Cairns in the distance and learn the history of the railway. Excellent trip! Do Gold Class and enjoy drinks, a cheese platter & sorbet!

Tour did not show up upon arrival. Tour operator did not text back. Had to make a phone call to even get on skyrail. Front of line privileges does not exist. Skyrim and train were exceptional.

We had the Sky Rail up and the train down. It's worth taking a short break at the Sky Rail stations for a walk around. The presentation from the Park Ranger was about 30 minutes and very fun and informative. The Sky Rail is WAY UP there so it is important to be OK with heights. The scenery is outstanding. During our break at the top we were able to catch lunch and a beer before heading to the butterfly sanctuary followed by the bird sanctuary. Stick to standards at lunch. The butterfly sanctuary was incredible, enabling many beautiful photos. The bird sanctuary was also good and I recommend getting some seed to share feed the birds. You can feed some of the big ones, parrots and cockatoos by hand. Note there is a small bowl at the bird sanctuary entrance filled with ear rings and hearing aids the little guys have stolen from guests in the past. You've been warned. Also in Kuranda are a number of shops. A fair amount of content is full on Tourist stuff but there are a number of shops with very nice Australian made products at reasonable prices. They're worth a look. The train ride down was sedate and with the "gold" ticket included beverages and snacks. The train stops at one point for an incredible view of the falls. The pace going down is slow enough to catch nice photos as well. During the ride a guide provides history of the rail and fore warning of good photo ops during the ride down. When you get in the car there is a row of double seats facing each other and a row of single seats facing each other. The window seats in the double seats offer the best view on the ride down. If a host/conductor asks if you would consider another seat, ask no questions, just say yes. We tour provided bus service in and out of Cairns and the drivers provided history of trip features for the ride to the Sky Rail and good advice on enjoying Cairns on the ride back from the train. My wife and I thought the trip was worth every penny.
