Guided tours (every hour between 9 am and 4 pm) begin with a multi-sensory 3D movie detailing the site's history, followed by a detailed look at the living museum inside the Great House, stamp collection, exhibitions, and the surrounding picturesque landscape. There is also a gift shop and restaurant on site.
Since its construction more than two centuries ago, Pedro St. James was used in a variety of ways, as a cotton plantation, courthouse, jail, Government Assembly and restaurant, before the Cayman Islands government purchased the property in 1996 and restored it to its 18th-century grandeur.
Today, it stands as a dynamic piece of Caymanian heritage. Best known as the “birthplace of democracy in the Cayman Islands,” Pedro St. James was the venue for a meeting on December 5, 1831, where it was decided to form the islands' first elected parliament. Later, on May 3, 1835, the proclamation ending slavery in the British Empire was read from the site.

Pedro St. James National Historic Site

4.00We had a tour stop here and I enjoyed the history of the location. The movie to bring you up to speed is nice. The view from the front lawn of the house is amazing. There are several steps up to the main part of the house. History comes alive here.

5.00Very informative! There is a tour guide that talked you first through a scuba museum, then to watch a shirt film on the history of the property, followed by a guided tour of the historic home. Our guide was fantastic

5.00Our guide, Tricia, embodied the warmth, generosity, and spirit of the Cayman Islands. She passionately and proudly shared the history of her heritage, which made us further appreciate the beauty of the Cayman people and their story. This is well worth doing the guided tour to experience this richness. P.S. Be sure to try the 1780 Rum, which can only be experienced here, at the Thatch & Barrel (on site).

5.00Our tour guide Trisha was excellent. She was so knowledgeable with much experience being a native to the island but lived in the states for many years. Salute to her and navy seal husband. We learned a lot. The tour was great seeing 240 yrs of history

5.00Our guide, Wilson, was so knowledgeable about the building and its history as well as the island itself. The “castle” has a fascinating history and is so well reconstructed with period furniture and objects. The movie presentation was fun. Gorgeous views of the water and a nice gift shop. Highly recommended!

5.00Went on the guided tour with Patricia who made it a very worthwhile visit. She is a very proud Camanyan with incredible knowledge of Cayman and Pedro St James. She imparted her knowledge with good humour and was very warm and welcoming.

5.00We were on our way back to our resort when I saw a sign for this place and I remembered reading about it so I said, let’s go check it out. Boy, every one of us was super thankful that we did. Patricia Richardson was our tour guide and she was over the top phenomenal. It was my wife and I and my wife’s parents and we had a blast. Patricia was super nice, super knowledgeable and extremely personable. If you ever get to cons here, ask for Patrica to be your tour guide, I promise you, you will not be disappointed. Thank you Patricia for making our day, much appreciated. 😁
