This relaxed and scenic 7-mile roundtrip journey departs the Depot in downtown Fort Bragg year-round, traveling along the beautiful Pudding Creek Estuary and passing into primeval ancient redwoods to the tranquil setting of Glen Blair Junction.
Trains will stop at Glen Blair Junction for 15 minutes, allowing you to get off and stretch your legs and explore. Or, if you’d like to spend more time walking our trails amongst the redwoods, you can remain and catch the next train (roughly two hours later). Plenty of time to explore. Feel free to bring a packed lunch (no alcohol, please) to enjoy at one of our picnic tables.
These were some of the first tracks ever laid down by the California Western Railroad in 1885, and we've been carrying passengers on them ever since.

It’s a $50 ride on an authentic train. You can ride inside the car or stand outside on the open car once you get to the train station hop off go take a beautiful hike through the woods. Come back have a little lunch and then hop on the train for an easy ride back. It is narrated in some of the cars so you can hear historically why it’s called the skunk train . (it has to do with skunk smelling cabbage plants that grow around the train area.) He crosses over bridges , makes all train, old train noises and squeals. Snacks are available on board or at the next train station

The train ride was nice just be worn. It is extremely cold at the campground. The fire pit was not lit. The heater was not on just to be known that it is extremely cold.

We rode the skunk train out of Fort Bragg to a place called Glen Blair where we got off the train and hiked just under a one mile loop. While on the train, we were educated on the history of the skunk train and railway system in the area and more about the trees we saw. The train went along pudding creek

The Skunk Train has always provided an excellent experience, whether we are riding with family, friends, or clients. We look forward to sharing this experience with others.

The Skunk Train is heavily promoted, “world famous” was announced multiple times over the loudspeakers. Many tourists seemed to come specifically for the ride rather than for Fort Bragg or Mendocino itself. The train ride was modest, passing mostly through brush and trees. At the destination, there’s a large tent-style cafeteria, which felt utilitarian. The short redwood trail was the standout -peaceful and worth the stop.

The supposed 2 hour trip is actually about 20 minutes each way of riding a tran that looks like it was built in the 60 and feels like it was built in the 30s. The other passengers were incredibly loud and the train is very slow with not much of a vista. Because of all the noise, it's virtually impossible to hear what the PA is saying. There will be a 45 minute stop at a small redwood clearing which has a small hiking trail, but hardly worth the train ride. People fight over seats and it also tends to get uncomfortably warm inside. Just a miserable experience all around.

This was recommended by a friend and did not disappoint. We were a little surprised when the train station was in town but within minutes we were surrounded by trees. Such a beautiful location. There were places to hike for a short bit and the conductor gave us some great info. Would highly recommend.

My wife and I purchased the Skunk Train tour which consisted of a very pleasant guided, 3 mile walk along the train tracks that follows Pudding Creek through a forest of Pines, Coastal Redwoods and Poplars. Most of the old growth trees are gone but there were a few remaining along with some very large stumps that were evidence of what had been very large Coast Redwoods in the past. Our guide, Scott, was very personable and informative about the history of the trains and logging operations. One of the more interesting points along the way was a rather large set of muddy bear paw prints crossing the trestle. The Skunk Train passed us along the way and was waiting for us at the end of our walk to take us back to the starting point. The tour provided us with a box lunch of a sandwich, a bag of chips and a Kind Bar and a drink token good for a variety of choices including soft drinks, a selection of beers and cocktails or water. The train normally makes 2 tour trips a day, but on this day a wedding party had reserved the train to take the party to the end of the line for the wedding ceremony and celebration. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

We did the Pudding creek rail bike ride. It met all of our expectations. Johnny and Donna were great guides. Johnny led us on a short hike with a lot of great information about the area, the Skunk railroad, and the redwoods. The stop at the Glen was beautiful.

A wonderful guided walk along the railroad track into the woods. The guide was knowledgeable and engaging, sharing insights about the area’s history and nature. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, perfect for both people and dogs. The train ride back was a fun and scenic finish to the visit. Admission was reasonable, the crowd size comfortable, and staff were friendly and well-organized. Gift shop is not to be missed! Highly recommended for nature lovers, families, and anyone seeking a terrific Ft Bragg outdoor experience.
