The Skywire is one of the Worlds longest Flying Fox experiences! - your trip starts from our Base area, onboarding a mini-bus journey up through the Native Forest to the launch platform of the Skywire. Your guides will entertain you on the trip up with facts and stories of the forest, points of interest and surrounding areas. The Skywire ride takes up to 4 people at a time and can reach a speeds of up to 100km/hr. The ride takes you both on a forward facing and backwards journey, with 800 metres of gravity assisted freewheeling in each direction - combined with 700 metres of a scenic journey in each direction, finishing back at the start after nearly 12 minutes of thrilling adventure!

On arrival to Cable Bay Adventure Park you'll want to check in at our booking office at least 10minutes prior to your departure time. If you're early, don't worry - you can grab a coffee or a bite to eat at our onsite, licensed, Base Cafe. We're open daily from 9am with our first departure for the day leaving at 10am and our last trip for the day departing at 3:00pm. Allow 1-1.5 hours round trip from the Base area for your experience. Participants must be 1.2 metres tall, child rates apply for children aged 15years and under, we also offer family rates for 2 Adults & 2 Children The Skywire launch platform is set at 300 metres above the Base cafe. Included in your experience is a commentated, 4km mini-bus journey up through the native forest to the launch platform. The Skywire ride takes up to 4 people at a time, seated side by side, strapped into individual racing car style seats with 5 point harnesses and takes approximately 12 minutes to complete the return journey! The Skywire is weather dependent - we can't operate in heavy rain or high winds. Bookings are highly recommended especially in the busy summer season.

5.00What a grand adventure! I took my mom and her friend on the closest thing to a zip line either will ever do. It was very secure, the view was wonderful, and the staff were knowledgeable and kind. This is a must-do if you enjoy zip lining, though it's a different sort of experience. Don't miss this!

5.00Connor was a great friendly and knowledgeable guide. The journey up to the ride was very interesting along with the history of the park. The ride was exillarating and over all to quickly but fast then very scenic.

5.00Starts surrounded by big hills wondering which one is hiding the wires. All is revealed when the fun, friendly experienced drivers takes us up through narrow mountain treks for an adventurous 20 minute drive. Arriving at the Skywire the valley it crosses is immense. Safely strapped in we let go with a gentle glide, brief stomach perking acceleration then stunning rush over the forest with 100kph slipstream flapping your cheeks. Great views over the forest and around the hills aven catching glimpses of tiny mountain bikers on the scattering of distant tracks. All in all a great fun, well organised, professional yet relaxed experience.

3.00The adventure park was really far from Nelson city and despite the Viator website stating “ A pick-up can be arranged from central Nelson on request”, this was not the case. The sky wire it’s self was pretty fun but of the 90minutes listed for event duration, closer to 10 is spent on the sky wire itself.

5.00Whilst on a family trip around the South Island we took the family (me, wife and 3 kids ages 13, 11, 8) to the skywire at Cable Bay. As with every trip we packed a decent lunch and took our trusty JetBoil and enjoyed a picnic and coffee / hot chocolate in the skywire park. After our lunch we were taken in a shuttle up to the top of the mountain. During the trip up the driver gave a heap of amazing info the park and nature and how they do pest control, he also pointed out some 1000 year old trees which was really cool. There are some good facilities at the top of the mountain. My wife and kids did the ride as they could only take 4 (which was ok) I took some photos. The ride is exhilarating but not scary at all our 8 year old boy loved it. It’s such a huge ride I think lasted for 10-15 minutes in total as they let you go down then tow you back up. The ride down was as enjoyable as the ride up and the kids were buzzing. Total time to do the activity was around 2 hours and provided you prepare good food and coffee to take the price is reasonable ($325 for 1 Adult and 3 children) compared to typical NZ adventure tourism activities. As with everything in NZ the best experiences are cheap / free provided you prepare and enjoy the little things 🙂
