Stolac
Stolac is a small town located in the southern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, known for its rich history, natural beauty, and cultural heritage. Stolac's Old Town is a well-preserved medieval settlement with narrow streets, traditional stone houses, and old fortifications. The Radimlja Necropolis is an ancient cemetery located near Stolac. The cemetery contains more than 130 tombstones, known as stećci, which date back to the 14th and 15th centuries. Stolac was part of the Ottoman Empire for more than 400 years, and many of the town's buildings and landmarks reflect this period of history. The Ottoman-era Caršija Mosque is one of the most impressive examples of this architectural style in the region. What can we say? This was simply a fantastic day spent learning about the culture, history and cuisine of Bosnia. Elvir was an exceptional host, tour guide and driver. Knowledgable, friendly, eager to answer any and all of our questions….and we had plenty. He opened our minds to some of the dining delicacies of Bosnia, including goat, which was delicious. It was nearly a 12-hour day that didn’t seem anywhere near that long. Fascinating experience for us all and a day we will never forget. If you’re looking for a day excision through Bosnia, you can stop looking for a guide, because Elvir is the tip of the spear.
