A 2 day course in the Blue Mountains, departing each day from Katoomba.
This course is designed for participants with little or no previous outdoor climbing experience, it is also an excellent transition from indoor to outdoor climbing. Quite simply you will experience a lot of fine Blue Mountains climbing while undertaking world standard technical rock and rope skills training.

Upon departure from the Paddy Pallin Adventure Center in Katoomba at 8:45am, you'll board your vehicle and head to the area where you'll begin the first part of your adventurous day focused on acquiring your safety awareness and belaying skills. From here it's straight on to the rock to ensure you get the most out of this fantastic experience! This course is designed for participants with little or no previous outdoor climbing experience, it is also an excellent transition from indoor to outdoor climbing. Quite simply you will experience a lot of fine Blue Mountains climbing while undertaking world standard technical rock and rope skills training. We can also run this course on a personal training or private group basis for those who prefer to select their own dates. The course fee includes: - All skills training and guided climbing with Nationally and Internationally Certified Climbing Instructors, lunch each day, supply and use of all equipment including ropes, helmets, harnesses, technical hardware, climbing shoes etc. The weekend begins with training in the fundamentals of abseiling and basic rockclimbing including: • The art of safe movement on rock • Using climbing equipment • Efficient use of holds • Rope handling • Tying knots • Belay anchors • Correct belay technique • How to use various footholds & handholds • Abseiling • Many other climbing techniques On this course you’ll also learn to select and use the latest in modern abseiling and rockclimbing equipment. Throughout the day your instructors will accompany you on a special selection of graduated climbs. The second day of the course is devoted solely to the simple joys of climbing, with your instructor aiming to take you on as many varied climbs as possible. The object will be to learn and develop your skills and techniques as you climb! This is the ideal course for the beginner or indoor climbing gym user who wants to make the transition to real rock. After this course you will be able to competently climb with experienced leaders on short moderately graded rock climbs. All technical equipment is supplied as well as highly trained instructors to ensure your adventure is safe, fun and exhilarating. We’ll also picnic amid the beautiful bush, with a tasty lunch supplied- Please be sure to inform us on your booking form if you have any special dietary requirements!

5.00This was our second Intro to climbing trip with ASM and it was another amazing experience. The team is highly experienced with a really strong focus on safety….our 13year old is managing all aspects of climbing very independently which is a credit to their style and approach. Liam and Pedro are a class act and we will be back again soon!
We are booking with ASM again!

5.00My husband, 12 year old son and I did the ASM Two Day Intro to Rock Climbing Course and absolutely loved it. We were taught important safety skills, and climbing technique. My son is great at indoor climbing, so it was great for him to learn the differences. He was challenged more than the rest of us, as he sailed through the early climbs. The amazing guides (thanks Liam and Pedro) were able to set up intermediate climbs for him, and some of the other more adventurous students, as we kept to the more basic climbs. I definitely struggled the most - I was unexpectedly scared - both of the height and the rocks. The guides were amazing - very calm, let me recover and gently challenged me to get back on the rock. I was so proud as I successfully a rock face each day - something I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to do. The remainder of the group all did 10 or so climbs a day. The locations were spectacular, the equipment top notch and the lunch was just delicious. But the best part was the social aspect - getting to know the guides and the other climbers. We are booking another weekend now!

5.00Awesome day trip exploring the Serendipity Canyon. Sammy and Dave were outstanding guides, very personable and have an obvious passion for the sport. Well organised and run. Stunning rock formations and amazing scenery. Was our first experience canyoning and will definitely look at doing more with ASM.

5.00Did the Learn To Lead Sport - 2 Day Course with a friend. Had the absolute best time. Our guide, Scott, was a true legend. We had experience leading indoors, but wanted to transfer those skills to leading outdoors. Scott knew his stuff inside and out, was very patient when explaining the skills we needed to learn, and helped us to get up our first multi pitch route! We always felt safe in his hands, but he also helped us to push our limits. And let’s not forget the amazing scenery. Seriously the most beautiful place to learn to lead outside.
What a way to come out of a lockdown!

5.00Just how great the weekend was... Since I booked the course, I’d been looking forward to it, but it definitely surpassed my expectation. Scott the instructor is super enthusiastic and happy to come down to your level, so you can improve at your own pace. His positive attitude and expertise will get you to the top of the wall even if you don’t trust in your own strength. I had an absolute cracker of a weekend. Can’t wait to start climbing more outdoors!

5.00I had the best time doing the Rock 1 course with Zuza and Lewis. From reading other reviews, it looks like everyone thinks their guides are the best but I really think we lucked out with the best ones. Zuza was friendly, knowledgeable and so happy to share her tips whether it be climbing related or the best restaurants in town. We were lucky enough to get Lewis for both days and he really made the experience for us. We were taken to beautiful spots on both days with climbs that suited everyone but presented enough of a challenge not to be boring. Lewis led the group confidently, ensuring we felt safe the whole time while also injecting a lot of fun into the day. Could not have asked for a better experience and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an adventurous day out in beautiful surrounds with a fun group.

5.00This was an incredible experience and I learned so much! Our guide Scott made the weekend an extremely fun and engaging experience. We went to some beautiful locations and got to try a variety of different climbs. It far exceeded my expectations.

5.00This a great course for all levels of skill and experience. The lunches where amazing and the guides are super welcoming and friendly. With the help of my guide Scott, I believe my rock climbing skills have improved twice as much with this course and I found myself successfully climbing cliffs that I wouldn't of dared to try to climb before hand.

5.00Amazing weekend. Blew my expectations away. Guides were great at adjusting the climbing to our abilities in the group. And greatly appreciated their efforts to improve our skills and gain new ones (such as abseiling). This course has made me very excited to start climbing outdoors more and is perfect for anyone wishing to transfer from climbing in gyms to outdoors or like me had some experience outdoors already and wanted to gain more knowledge. Big thanks to our guides Scott and Maria.

5.00ASM know how to do it! Shout out to Scott & Maria, our guides. The entire weekend was relaxed & fun. The guides quickly adapted to the groups various skill levels & hand crafted an amazing experience for all of us. Theses guys clearly love what they do! Lunch was amazing also. I highly recommend to anyone looking to take the first step or build on what you already know., we will absolutely be back in 2021 🤙🏼
