Laughing Bird Caye is a National Park and World Heritage Site. It is a long and narrow island known for its abundance of marine life and corals. The name comes from the gulls that are among the many birds that Inhabit the north end of the caye. Laughing Bird Caye offers excellent snorkeling as would be expected at a national park. On the east side of the island coral mounds separated by sandy patches rise to about 5 feet from the surface. These mounds have a variety of coral types which are home to lobsters, barracuda, lizardfish, angel fish, parrot fish, spotted drums, southern rays and a myriad of reef fish. On the west side your guide will find lobster, barracuda, lizardfish, Nassau grouper, angel fish, furry sea cucumbers, conch and lots and lots of colourful juvenile reef fish.

Laughing Bird Caye National Park

Depart Splash Dive Center at 09:00 am for the 30 to 40 minute boat ride to Laughing Bird Caye National Park. This is the most popular Inner Reef dive destination. Upon arrival expect a briefing from the park ranger and then head into the water with your licensed snorkel guide. If you have not snorkelled before, no problem. Our guides are happy to show you the ins and outs of snorkeling and how to find the good stuff. Critters include spotted drum, huge lobsters, cleaner shrimp, arrow crabs, snapper, barracuda and more varieties of reef fish than you can count. l Around mid day you’ll enjoy a Belize style picnic lunch or a barbecue on the island. Then, you would head back into the water for more underwater exploration. There are lots of areas with healthy corals and abundant aquatic life to check out before heading back to Placencia.

Splash Dive Center took us out to Laughing Bird Caye. What a special day! Our guide was personable and very informative. He taught us all about the fish, coral, plants, and other marine life. He knew a ton of info and shared so much with us. We saw so many types of critters! The fish were gorgeous. The reef sharks and nurse sharks were swimming along, not bothering anyone. The water was spectacular! It was a magical day!
Have snorkled many places but this experience today surpasses all!

The reef and underwater life I saw today was like out of National Geographic. The experience was enhanced by the expertise of our leader Deuce and his kind, caring personality. He was passionate about his work and just a fun guy. What a great day I will never forget! Do it!

Wonderful family excursion! Our ages range from 5 to 78 and everyone had fun. Great opportunity to get out on the water and explore the reef. My daughter was thrilled we saw sharks! The excursion was well organized and we had a delicious lunch. We will definitely do this again when we return to the area as there will always be something new to see.

10/10 experience! The island we were taken to was breathtaking with clear blue water and white sands. The lunch provided was filling and delicious. The staff were funny, friendly and knowledgeable making sure to engage with guests and showcasing their extensive knowledge of the sea life! Would book with this company again! Got to see nurse sharks which was a plus!

Spent the past week in Belize and went on 2 excursions with Splash. The laughing Bird snorkelling experience was such a blast and the guides were so knowledgeable and funny! The whole crew made sure we all knew what was happening and explained everything to us ensuring we were on the same page. If you’re ever in Belize this is a MUST TRY experience! The atmosphere was also really fun and all the other tourists were super friendly. The boat ride was about 45 minutes but flew by.

Highly recommend this tour! It was the best snorkeling we have ever done. The guides and crew were amazing! Saw tons of fish and sharks. Took many great photos of them.

The island was a beautiful spit of sand with a picnic area and loungers. There was loads of fish, couple of reef sharks, and lots of colourful coral. No turtles though. Guides were helpful and kind.

If you are looking for a stellar snorkeling experience, look no further. We went out on New Year's Day and it was the perfect way to welcome in the new year! The variety of wildlife was insane—seeing octopuses and sharks in the wild was a core memory for my family. A massive shoutout to Duce, our guide. He is a wealth of knowledge and has such a warm, welcoming energy. He went above and beyond to make sure we saw as much as possible while keeping the vibe fun and relaxed. Thank you, Duce, for making our first day of 2026 so special!

Really lovely experience. All the staff were great, the boat ride was comfortable and easy, and the snorkeling was top notch. Lots of time in the water and our guide was super knowledgeable and friendly.
