Our gear kit includes the following: 7mm wetsuit mask and snorkel 7mm dive gloves 7mm dive booties dive hood flippers Our experienced guides will assist all guests to make sure they are able to don the suits. Once everyone is properly suited up and outfitted, we will all hop in the Snorkelmobile and drive to one of our two dive sites. At the dive site, we will walk down into the water over a rocky shore. Both dive sites have relatively easy, walk-in entry, but will require walking over rocks. Once in the water, our knowledgable guides will swim with you, using a foamy surfboard in case anyone needs to rest or has any trouble. Our guide will also help point out wildlife. After 40-60 minutes in the water, we will all gather onshore and dry off. Afterwards we will drop our guests off downtown for their next adventure. If you are on a cruise, we will work with you to make sure you don’t miss your departure.

We had a fantastic time! I was afraid that I would be too cold to enjoy myself, as I despise cold water. But the wetsuit did an amazing job of keeping me warm. Our tour guide was wonderful (sorry I can't remember his name) and made sure to bring to our attention interesting things. The group was very small (only 3 people) as it was the end of the season, so we got even more attention. Advice: Take a swimsuit. If you have a full-face snorkel, leave it at home, as it won't work with the wetsuit (there is a head covering). I would absolutely recommend this. I got to snorkel in Alaska! Oh, and he gave me a beautiful abalone shell that he had found.

Nobody will believe you snorkeled in Alaska, but you will be so happy that you did!

This was the highlight of our Alaskan Cruise vacation! The gear kept us warm as well as provided added buoyancy in the chilly water. The seas were a little angry when we went last week but the weather was otherwise gorgeous. We had a very small group and were in very capable hands with our guide, Andrew. He picked us up and dropped us off from the downtown cruise shuttle point and the communications were good so he was easy to find. We had plenty of time to circumnavigate the island, explore the otherworldly kelp forest and have our minds blown by the beautiful and bountiful amount of colorful life we saw under the surface of the rough, gray water. Highly recommend for beginners and experienced snorkelers and divers alike. Rent the GoPro so you will have your own shots and memories like you see on some of the other reviews. Hot chocolate/tea, etc. back at the shop helped us warm back up as we shed our wetsuits and dried off. Plenty of time to do this tour as well as do some exploring in Sitka. It was not listed as a cruise excursion so booked on our own.

We had such an amazing experience on this tour…mysterious, beautiful, and the perfect experience who love to experience the exotic corners of our beautiful world. Andrew was a personable and competent guide snorkeling around the island. And surprisingly, the water did not feel that cold. I usually hate cold swimming pools, and this experience was warmer than that by far. You won’t regret trying this out!
Definitely take the tour!

We have a fantastic experience. I was afraid of being cold, but I stayed warm the entire time. Andrew was a fantastic guide. He was knowledgeable, personable, and made sure we were well taken care of. I highly recommend this tour. It isn’t available through cruise ship excursions but well worth booking independently.

I will start with saying the tour we did end up doing was great, saw more than expected in the water. My bad review is from getting stood up initially. We did reach out and they had a booking error for our reservation, they did plan a later tour. They also offered to comp our service, but did not follow through on that. Seems like we were some of the unlucky ones. I will say if you do have issues they are not reliable to their word.

When I told a coworker I was spending a few days in Sitka with my family he connected me to Selkie Snorkels, and I have to say, whatever reservations you have about going snorkeling in 50-degree water, forget about them -- this was by far the coolest thing I got to do all trip. The wetsuits and other equipment kept me warm and comfortable in the water and paddling by hand through a live kelp forest is definitely something I won't forget doing anytime soon. Ethan was a great guide, and it seems like everyone who works here has some sort of really interesting backstory. They also offered to take my family up to Magic Island Beach in the tour van -- they ended up staying in town while I snorkeled but we really appreciated the thoughtfulness!

When I saw this excursion, I knew I had to sign up for it as it is truly one of a kind. The wetsuit was warm and the temperature of the water did not penetrate through the suit. The pictures do not give any justice to the actual experience. Ethan was very knowledgeable and a great tour guide. I was in awe in the amount of creatures we saw. The brilliance in color and vast variety of sea creatures was remarkable. I will always treasure this experience. Thank you Selkie Snorkels and Ethan for a great time!
