Day 1 – Discovering Soviet Heritage in Vilnius Our tour begins at the Civil Registry Office of Vilnius, an impressive example of Soviet-era architecture. Here, you’ll learn about the building’s purpose and symbolism during Soviet times — and how its role has transformed in modern Lithuania. From there, we’ll stroll through a small nearby park and start descending a charming pedestrian street offering a panoramic view of modern Vilnius — a perfect contrast between the city’s past and present.
Museum of Occupations and Freedom Struggles
Along the way, we’ll pass the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights (commonly known as the KGB Museum). Your guide will share a short explanation about the building’s dark history and the stories preserved within its walls. A visit inside is possible for those who wish to explore further. Required a prior notice. Be informed that the Museum is opened from Wednesday till Sunday. There are also guided tours offered. Me, as a licensed Vilnius guide, I do not hold that license. It should be arranged with each group in advance.
