Carrbridge
On our way to our first distillery Carrbridge’s most famous landmark is the old Carrbridge packhorse bridge, from which the village is named. The bridge, built in 1717, is the oldest stone bridge in the Highlands. It was severely damaged in the “muckle spate” of 1829 which left it in the condition seen today. As seen in the picture can be a slow calming stream of water and can jump to fast flowing river jumping 6-7 feet higher in heavy rain downfall.
Glenfarclas Distillery
There is evidence that the distillery first started operations sometime before 1791. The distillery was first granted a licence in 1836. The distillery has approximately 68,000 casks maturing on site, in traditional dunnage warehouses, with stock from every year from 1953 to the current year. Glenfarclas produce a traditional Highland malt with a heavy sherry influence. The company was named Distiller of the Year by Whisky Magazine in 2006, 2020 and 2023. Enjoy a tour around their distillery followed with a tasting of their best-known whisky’s.

We had an absolutely amazing day with Johnny as our guide! He was incredibly knowledgeable and went above and beyond to make the tour special—tailoring our stops to include a castle, Highland coos, and plenty of photo opportunities. What impressed us most was that all of this was arranged on basically zero notice after another company canceled on us last minute. Tony, the owner, still managed to secure a full distillery tour, the cooperage, and multiple tastings. The driving was excellent (we always felt safe), the vehicle was spotless and comfortable, and stocked with snacks. Johnny was friendly, conversational, and clearly enjoys what he does. I only wish we had booked them from the start—I can’t recommend this company enough!

It was a great day, Tony our driver was able to make the day really interesting, and if he had to jig the day he did, to avoid road closures etc. I couldn't recommend him enough. Top guy, top trip!

This was such an incredible experience! I am not a tour-taking person typically, but I’m glad we arranged this trip to have a safe (and super fun) way to experience the Speyside whisky distillers. Tony (the owner) was very responsive in helping us plan the experience ahead of time, and suggested times to schedule the tour of Glenfarclas and the cooperage. I wouldn’t have thought to visit either, but they both absolutely made our experience. On the day of our tour, Tony’s dad Johnny was an excellent tour guide. He was so knowledgeable, a safe driver, and brought us to some incredible destinations. He brought us to see the Carrbridge Packhouse Bridge (built in 1717) and highland cows before our first stop at Glenfarclas, where we had an incredible tour of the facilities followed by the tasting. Then we were off to GlenAllachie, Speyside Cooperage, Balvenie and Glenfiddich. The best end cap was that we stopped by the sea for a few final tastes of whisky, a bit of gin and some tasty Scottish snacks. He thought to take pictures of us throughout the tour, which he sent to us almost immediately after our tour ended. Such a friendly person, and I will definitely be calling up Tony and Johnny the next time we’re in the area, and recommending them to everyone I know.
