The Great House and Distillery tour captures an authentic insight into life on a 17th century plantation showcasing artifacts from Amerindian settlement through to colonial times. The movie c. 1935 is a rare and unique glimpse of this life and also of Barbados at the turn of the 20th century.
The attraction is intended to allow visitors to tour at their own pace or have a guided tour while also allowing opportunities to have quiet spaces for reflection and for relaxing within the gardens and landscaped grounds.
The cafe offers refreshments and light fare for the visitors taking the tour within the setting of a lush tropical gully.
Our artisan distillery showcases our manufacturing in a manner that allows the visitor to be immersed in the processes of making rum for "the sugar cane field to the bottle", viewing the crushing of cane within the antique steam mill allowing them to take away a more meaningful experience of their visit.

5.00We visited St. Nicholas Abbey, now the site if Barbados Rum factory. This beautiful historical site includes a Railway tour on a carefully restored train crossing Victorian steel trestle bridge and stopover at Cherry Tree Hill. The train "engineer" was amazing with a beautiful voice -- she sung the Stevie Wonder version of Happy Birthday. The tour mixed history with scenery and allowed for a brief stop on Cherry Hill. We enjoyed a rum tasting after the tour and finished up with a delicious lunch in on-site picnic patio area. The scenery was pretty and made for a relaxing day.
A Great place to visit with one exception - PLEASE provide better, larger and more interactive aviaries for your parrots

4.00macaws & cockatoo are never let out, no stimulation. V stressed 'pets' that have been this way in your family for decades - Which makes your lack of understanding all the more tragic for these very intelligent birds. You have the space to make new wonderful homes for all of the birds that you are privileged to have! Please Show compassion and give them what they deserve. They have many years left to live. Thank you

5.00Went yesterday, Wednesday 5th Nov, was going to do the short train+ house tour but ended up doing the long tour, quite pricey but worth it, train was quite fun with the comedian conductor , got off at the house where another lady showed us around , very interesting then we did the distillery tour and while this place isn't on the scale of some other distillery tours I have been on its still interesting, watched a short video about the history of the whole place then did a spot of rum tasting hosted by a lovely guy called Simon, the current owners son , who was also a comedian. I bought a bottle and a young lady kindly engraved the bottle for me, all together a fun and worthwhile trip though we went in or hire car so it was easy , dont know about other means of transport

5.00What a brilliant way to spend 3 hours. A great tour of the house and distillery before watching the amazing family film! Followed by a lovely lunch, overlooking the beautiful trees in the gully at the rear of the house, where we met at spoke to Simon, who is the perfect ambassador for the house.
Fabulous tour & steam train but please release the parrots!

4.00We did the full tour today. Our tour guide was great - the house has a fascinating history. The rum tasting was good and very informative. The steam train and guide was amazing. We would highly recommend. But please release the parrots and if that’s not possible for some reason then give them bigger and better homes. Beautiful intelligent birds like that should not be kept in cages and definitely not in ones that small. Apart from that it was a great tour overall.

5.00Loved everything about this tour. Everyone so very friendly, and knowledgeable. . Amazing gardens and Jacobean home. The rum tasting was the highlight of this tour for me and Carol was the perfect tour guide. I would highly recommend this tour.

5.00What a fabulous trip this was. We got there just in time for the train. The train took us through the grounds up to Cherry Hill. Our guide Tonya was superb. She told us alot about the history, the various stages of development and the fact that there never was an Abbey here. We also learnt about the various workers used to build various parts of the development. Then we got the tour of The Great House. Again, our guide Virginia had a wealth of information about the house, the lovely antique items and the various owners over the years. We got to see a short film about the house and the original owner before we got to the Distillery. There we saw the process of making rum from sugar cane and all the other products made. We tasted rum, white rum and Ameretto. All delicious. A great day and well worth the cost.

4.00The site is significant – it is one of only three surviving Jacobean mansions in the Western Hemisphere, set on a still-functioning family run 400-acre sugar plantation with a small independent distillery. Our guide was very personable and knowledgeable. The tour, whilst brief, felt leisurely. It started in the Great House which was a bit underwhelming, with access only to the downstairs drawing room, dining room and a study. (The upper floors are home to the owners and their family). A new Remembrance Room – Museum is under development. Next, we moved to an outbuilding to watch a 20-minute black-and-white home movie, showing life on the estate in the mid-1930s. This was a highlight for us – adding some insightful and personal detail. The tour does not enter the distillery itself, but you get glimpse from the outside and there is lots of information about the production process on billboards and form the guide. The tasting of two single cask rums is usually led by Simon (one of the owners’ sons) who is a knowledgeable, witty, slightly cheesy, and disarmingly charming host (pretty remarkable given that a brain injury after near fatal car accident has left him with a lisp and limp). We were not a fan of the aviaries. The toilets here (and at the steam railway station) were very clean. We couldn’t take our planned ride on the train which had (annoyingly) closed early.

5.00We went on the St Nicholas Abbey Train Journey + Great House & Distillery Tour. It was really a fun and relaxing experience. The Heritage Railway ride was great - super relaxing and the guide was really engaging. The property is beautiful and the train ride was a great way to explore, plus the view from Cherry Tree Hill is beautiful. The house and distillery tour were also fun - lots of history. They are a boutique rum distillery so it was interesting seeing their production, though the tour wasn't very technical. The tasting at the end was a bit disappointing as it was very quick (only 2 rums). But overall it was great, and we had a nice lunch at the Terrace Cafe afterwards.
