Covering the highlights of Beppu's famous 'hells' located in the striking Kannawa district, this is a light, easy-going tour - ideal for those who only have half a day to spare. Guests will also be treated to some of the area's charming hidden gems, which would not typically be found on a standard tourist route.
The tour kicks off at the Sea Hell ('Umi Jigoku'), followed by the Onishi Bozu hell. After visiting the hells, you'll enjoy a leisurely stroll through the area's quaint streets. As well as stopping at a foot bath facility, you'll visit charming local shops, giving you the chance to meet locals and witness how the unique geography of the Kannawa area has shaped their daily lives.
Cat lovers are also in for a treat, with the Kannawa area being a well-known haunt for stray kitties.

A breathtaking, naturally aqua-blue hot spring pool, known as 'Umi Jigoku'. Due to its extremely high temperature, this hot spring is strictly for viewing, not for bathing in! A hot-spring foot bath is available onsite.

5.00Lio, our guide was so knowledgeable about Beppu. He kept an on going dialogue while answering our questions. He took us to a shrine with an active monk that entertained us with Japanese and Western instruments. He took us to a luncheon place that used then onsen to cook our food. It was an educational and enjoyable day.

5.00A fantastic way to learn about Beppu and explore the Kannawa area! Our guide, Loi, started us at Beppu Station and gave a bit of history on Beppu as a city and how onsen tourism in Japan really started here. And from there, the historical facts kept coming as we made our way to and through Kannawa. We were lucky to be there on a rainy weekday, as the area wasn’t crowded and the rain made the steam thicker. Our visit included 2 of the Hells of Beppu, and Loi gave us the insider tip about which one to start at to avoid the crowds. For lunch we had the iconic jigoku-mushi, hell-steamed local produce, chicken and seafood. The flavours of the local veggies really shine through and knowing the whole thing was cooked using natural geothermal steam was so cool. The ultimate sustainable meal! I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. A great way to gain local insights and see some iconic sites as well as a couple of hidden gems.

5.00Went on the tour with my friends while visiting Beppu. As both of us are interested in learning more about the history of Beppu, we had come across this lovely day trip on the web. The tour guide (his name is Loi) was lovely and FUNNY!!! We learned alot of interesting facts and knowledges about Beppu from him~ Totally worth it for what we paid for.
