FINALLY. Cuenca has an authentic French restaurant. Others, at best, are copies of French cooking that does not evoke and memories of traditional France. They merely use French names. They are not necessarily bad, but certainly not French. I am French from Quebec and, like all of us, a foodie. I have spend many years in France The place is newly opened, owned and operated by a handsome Frenchman from Orléans (where Joan of Arc came from). It is decorated in a style that is indistinguishable from 1000s of France restaurants, and the view from the windows on El Centro (the old city) compliments that. I began with a foie gras...nicely prepared and served with garnishes. (a first for Cuenca or Ecuador for that matter). Very pleased. I continued with an exceptional (and large) plate of grilled octopus ersillade, a favorite of mine. Best I have had here in 15 years. I finished with a Tarte Tatin (the legendary French dessert) and expresso allongé. My companion had a Magret of Duck, sliced and pretty and ended with profiterolles I am going back tomorrow with my wife. I shall take photos.

Edison was very accommodating by changing the day because it was raining heavily at our appointed time. However, he arrived on time, agreed on a different time, kindly dropped us off at a different destination, & met us the following day. He’s very knowledgeable about the history of and customs of Cuenca and Ecuador, of the city, and the best places to procure Cuenca foods. He was full of information about all the questions we had. It was a joy to spend time with him.

My husband, daughter and I did an evening tour with Cris and had such a great time. We got to learn a lot about Cuenca’s history and culture alongside the delicious food. We liked that we got to choose the amount of food we’d get, so we didn’t feel overloaded at the end. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about Cuenca. Cris was easy to talk to and had helpful suggestions for things to do beyond the tour as well.

Our tour with Flavio was fantastic! We really enjoyed hearing about Cuenca's history including the architecture and food influence. The walk around the city was informative, hitting on major areas in the historic district. We stopped at the 10 de Augusto Mercado and several food places trying authentic Ecuadorian foods including sweets and breads. Flavio was very friendly, personable and spoke great English. If you want a tour of great food and culture with a local, this is it.

I had a great experience with Flavio my tour guide. We ate many different things like pastries, ceviche, ice cream, and bread from the bakery. He shared insightful knowledge about the economy, the culture and the soul of Cuenca and Ecuador. I would highly suggest booking this tour at the beginning of your trip so you can get a feel for this city and revisit places that interest you.

Flavio took us to the market near San Francisco Plaza, which was amazing to see with all of its produce, meats, & prepared foods. There, we enjoyed some fresh juice (I loved the blackberry & coconut combo) & a warm corn tortilla. We left there and visited a bakery where we enjoyed Rodillo de Christi (bread with cheese on top). We walked around the city, learning about the area, and enjoyed a few sweets…ice cream & espumilla. Flavio was very personable & it all made for a lovely evening!

We had an amazing day with Christian in Cuenca. He was full of knowledge. He shared the older and modern history of Cuenca. He took us to a very large food market and let us taste lots of fruits and local foods. He also took us to the street food section of town and showed us some amazing foods there. We absolutely love Cuenca, its people and its history. We will come back and call Polylepsis tours again.
