Departure by car or bus to e to a nearby village to start the hike
Indian Nose
Early departure: We start the adventure at 4:00 a.m., when the lake still sleeps and the sky begins to transform. A journey of approximately 45 minutes by bus or car will take us to the starting point of the hike. We will begin the hike near a place on the Indian Nose. From there, we will hike for 30 to 45 minutes, surrounded by nature, until we reach the top of the Indian Nose. At the top, you will enjoy a sky illuminated in shades of gold and orange as the sun emerges between the San Pedro, Tolimán and Atitlán volcanoes. You will have time to take spectacular pictures of the lake and the surrounding villages. All in a quiet environment, away from the noise of the city, ideal to relax and live an authentic experience in Atitlan.

5.00We are fit, experienced hikers, this was a very easy hike. Keep in mind that you are already at elevation, increasing elevation, so if you're accustomed to being closer to sea level, you should go slow and have frequent breaks. Chema will make sure you are breaking as much as you need. It is quite cold at the top, so to be comfortable, be sure to pack a warm hat and jacket, as you'll be sitting for a while watching the glory of a sunrise. You'll be offered hot cocoa or coffee and a roll. We were happy to pay for this excursion, as opposed to the many many other offers in San Pedro because it was just Chema, and the two of us. No others to wait for or keep up with.

5.00This was an amazing experience! Chema (José) was a wonderful guide…kind, knowledgeable, patient, and a great photographer! Be aware that it is not a super easy hike…there are many stairs and it is high, but it is worth it!

5.00I'm a woman traveling alone and I went upstairs alone with the guide. I felt very safe. The guide was very attentive, adapting to my rhythm, proposing breaks if necessary - and even lending me his flashlight since I had forgotten mine. Upstairs he answered all my questions and then, since he didn’t need anything else, he withdrew so he could appreciate the sunrise, which was absolutely amazing. Afterwards, I was in no hurry to get down, let me decide the moment, which I appreciated a lot too. Conclusion: a very nice experience, thank you very much!

5.00We did Rostro Maya (aka Indian Nose) sunrise hike with Chema and it was amazing. He is very compassionate, understanding, and will go at your pace. If you need a break, just let him know & he will stop. He made sure to keep us informed about the timing of sunrise, to make sure we got there on time even with our needed breaks. He makes sure you’re taken care of up top and we’re offered chocolate or coffee along with sweet bread. He took pictures of us as well! Definitely recommend Chema. Any questions you have just ask him. Such a humble man! 😊

5.00We went to Indian Nose with our friends, and Chema, our guide, was very patient and attentive the whole time. He went at our own pace and guided us perfectly throughout the entire hike. At the top, we had coffee and hot chocolate, which was a great bonus to the tour and made the moment even more special. Chema also takes amazing photos, which allowed us to take home incredible memories. The sunrise was spectacular. Without a doubt, we had a wonderful experience and highly recommend it.

5.00This hike was absolutely amazing, and Chema was a large part of that! I went with three of my friends (who were slower hikers than I) and Chema made sure we all made it up to the Rostro without issues. We missed the sunrise but it was beautiful nonetheless! I would HIGHLY suggest going with Chema if you want a safe, fun, and educational climb up to the beautiful Rostro Maya!

5.00I joined Chema’s Indian Nose hiking tour during my stay, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of my trip. At first, I had booked a different hiking tour, but I switched to Chema’s and I’m so glad I did. The weather was cloudy that morning, but it didn’t matter—the hike was still beautiful and peaceful. From the very beginning, Chema showed genuine kindness and thoughtfulness. He paid attention to my pace and made sure I was comfortable throughout the hike. Thanks to his care, I could enjoy the experience without worries and fully take in the breathtaking views over Lake Atitlán. I would recommend it to anyone visiting the area!
