Tico's is a family-run business with more than 17 years of experience and a lot of passion for what we do. We care a lot about your safety, so all of your instructors are also certified lifeguards. Book your surf lessons with us, whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or advanced; we guarantee fun and safety at all levels – and all ages. We love teaching families and young kids as much as adults and friend groups.
We offer private, semi-private and group lessons for different prices. If you come alone and would like to participate in a group lesson, we can try to match you with fellow solo travelers.
After your lesson, you will be able to lend a surfboard to practice on your own for free and you are always welcome to come back should you have any questions about surfing or the area. We are also happy to provide you with tips for any other tours in and around Sámara.

All your classes last 1 hour to 90 minutes depending on conditions and customer, and you will be able to practice on your own with your board afterwards or later! All lessons begin with a briefing (according to the student's level) on position, safety, and surfboard handling. The instructor then selects the board, and once ready, the adventure of the surfing lesson in the ocean begins. We are also happy to provide you with high class pictures of your experience. Due to changing tides, weather, and conditions, we do not follow a fixed schedule at Tico’s Surf School, but instead offer individual appointments. Please note that this ticket serves only to ensure your booking and get in touch with us a few days prior to your booking to find the perfect time slot depending on tide and experience level. We cannot guarantee a surf lesson if you simply show up with a ticket!

5.00Had an awesome lesson and time surfing with our instructor, Gato! He did a great job of covering the fundamentals while we were on land, and when I got a little nervous in the water, he was incredibly supportive and patient with me. I was a beginner, and I successfully stood up and surfed a bunch of times with his help! Most importantly, he reminded us to have fun :) Would highly recommend taking a lesson with him or any of the other great instructors here! Thanks for everything, Gato! - Christina and Michael

5.00had such an amazing experience with this surf school in Sámara! Everyone was incredibly helpful from the start, and the training beforehand made getting in the water feel really easy and not intimidating at all. Our instructor was honestly the best — super supportive, patient, and basically our personal hype man the entire time. He made it fun and kept everyone feeling confident. By the end, everyone in our group was able to stand up and actually surf a little, which felt like a huge win. The water was beautiful, everything felt really safe and well-organized, and the whole experience was just so much fun. Couldn’t have asked for a better first surf lesson — highly recommend! Oh, and I got these epic photos.

5.00We had an amazing experience. It was great for our whole family. The service was solid from start to finish: professional, and genuinely caring. Daniel, our instructor, was fantastic with our youngest daughter, who was nervous about falling in the waves. He guided us all step by step from the beach into the water, building our confidence, particularly hers, the whole way. The equipment was excellent (rash guards and solid, newer boards), and we also loved being able to use the boards for a few hours each day afterward. Highly recommend, especially for families!

5.00Myself and 4 daughters ranging in age from 5-14 had the best time surfing today! It was our first time surfing and we all had a blast and successfully surfed! Our instructor Slathan was amazing and very helpful with my younger and older kids and made sure everyone had fun! We would highly recommend Tico’s Surf School and hope to come back again!

5.00We took a surf lesson and ended up spending most of our beach time there! The staff is friendly. We had access to lockers. They have the best price for beach chairs. I saw many kids succeed to ride waves. Thank you Daniel for your patience with us, you gave us clear instructions and you were very trustworthy! Pura vida!

5.00We recently had surf lessons for our 6- and 8-year-olds with Javier, and it was an amazing experience! He was fantastic with kids—very patient, encouraging, and made learning to surf fun and safe. Javier took the time to build their confidence in the water and explained everything in a way they could easily understand. Both kids were up on the board and smiling the whole time! Highly recommend Javier for anyone looking to get their kids started with surfing—such a great experience from start to finish!

5.00We were staying near Samara Beach and visited Ticos Surf School one day while strolling along. They were very friendly and explained their services and options to us. We decided to try surf lessons and they were able to get my three kids aged 10, 12, and 14 in for a group lesson (of just the three of them at $60US per kid) the following day. They did about 25 minutes of on-land training and instruction in the shade, and then their fabulous instructor Javier took them into the ocean. All three of my kids got up on their boards immediately and spent the next hour in the water with Javier getting up about 80% of the time. They had an absolute great time and were all very proud of themselves. Along with the lesson, you get to use a surf board and practice on your own for another two hours. We returned the next morning, as they were exhausted after their lesson, to use the boards and practice. I also recommend getting the photos. Pablo did a fantastic job capturing each of my kids as they surfed. It was $10US per kid for the photos and I received about 75 pictures (around 25 shots per kid) digitally, which was a wonderful keepsake. We had a great experience with Ticos Surf School, and I highly recommend checking them out!
