Sverd i fjell is a must-see. In 872, a great battle was fought all around this area that caused Norway to be birthed. A place of real historical significance. If you are in Stavanger then you have to go and see the swords and learn about the historical significance of the monument.
Your guide will pick you up at your hotel, cruise ship or another place you are staying in Stavanger.
On the way to Ullandhaug Tower, you’ll stop at Hafrsfjord, where a historical battle was fought in the age of Vikings between 872 and 900. From Ullandhaug Tower, you will get a bird’s eye view over the city and Ryfylke Fjords. After that, you will stop at the Swords in Rock monument, where you will have time to take photos.
After returning back to the city you will have a sightseeing tour of the old city – Gamle Stavanger. You’ll be able to view the outside of Stavanger Cathedral, plus you will have free time to experience Stavanger and to shop for souvenirs before returning back to your hotel/cruise ship.

Ullandhaug Tower
Ullandhaug tower - The telecommunications tower was built in 1964. The tower rises 64 meters on a hill 135 m above sea level. From here you have a marvelous view of Stavanger, Ryfylke, and Nordjæren. Each year the tower is decorated with lights for Christmas.
Hafrsfjord or Hafrsfjorden is a fjord in the Stavanger Peninsula in Rogaland county, Norway. The 9-kilometer (5.6 mi) long fjord forms the border between the municipalities of Stavanger and Sola. On the west side of the fjord is the large village of Tananger, on the south is the village of Solakrossen, and on the east end of the fjord is the borough of Madla in the city of Stavanger. The Møllebukta bay area, located on the innermost part of the fjord, is the site of a popular beach and the Sverd i Fjell statues. The only bridge over the fjord is the Hafrsfjord Bridge which runs between Kvernevik in Stavanger and Jåsund in the village of Tananger in Sola.

3.00Honestly, we only passed by the swords by bus, so we didn’t get off because the bus took us to the airport. But what we saw was enough for us. For a short photo stop it is ok, but nothing more.
A trip out of central Stavanger to see the “Sverd i fjell” ~ Swords in Rock.

5.00This iconic attraction is a commemorative monument to the historic battle of Hafrsfjord in the year 872. The battle resulted with King Harald Fairhair unifying all of Norway under one crown. The three bronze swords stand 10m high on the banks of Hafrsfjord which lies to the west of central Stavanger.
